This kind of propaganda would only be believed by those on the left who were anti-American to begin with (like John Kerry).

The power that Communist thought had over the European elite, and the American media was palpable.

The media then influenced the people, and what resulted did irreparable damage to this country........which was their intent.

The KGB/Communist operatives had far more success in damaging America than most people realize. This is just further evidence.

Thanks for the ping. Everyday there is something more disgustingly sickening about him.

His conscience was probably eaten away by maggots long ago.

(sorry, I know that's disgusting, but I needed to vent!)

***But to say that KGB ruled all anti-war movement if 70th IMHO is very exxageration.
IF KGB was so all mighty why it cann't convert West into soviet beleiving completely? ***

Because starting way back in the forties some of us were warned IN OUR SCHOOLS about the Communists intention to take over this country. Of course, that was before the Communists took over the schools.

And because some of us remember that Kruschev said (I believe it was in 1953) the following:

"We will bury you. And we will do it from the inside."

Treason by McCarthy?

I know English can be challenging but go back and try one more time. McCarthy's era, not his treason. Got it?

Thanks for the ping! I'm hoping that the sleeping giants of Republicans and conservatives awake and learn what is at stake in this election. If they do, it is certain they will vote Bush/Cheney.

The KGB didn't rule it, but they planted seeds in a fertile ground.

Some, not all, of the students in the long haired hippie college I went to in the late 60's clearly bought into these lies, with great energy. They hated 'the man' and distrusted the government, and this played into it well.

And even now, my mother-in-law here on the left coast, who is in her early 80's, shows off to me the peace signs she makes for the demonstrations she goes to, and her husband explains how Israel has blown any chance they have their own nation by imprisoning and terrorizing the poor Palestinians for the last 50 years.

By not recognizing the real dangers that these ideas have, their large capacity to mislead millions of people (my neighbors, my relatives, my fellow workers, my fellow students, ...), by discrediting the work of the KGB in helping to plant the seeds of these ideas as frivolous or exaggerations because clearly the KGB didn't have the direct power to order this (and if they did, we'd all be Communists now), you miss out on the real dangers we continue to face.

Wake up - we are at war - have been at war for a century now, and will continue to be at war with the faithless forces of terror and tyranny.

I like that term..."sleeping giants of Republicans and conservatives." We've got a tiger by the tail, Americans do, if everyone would wake up and realize the truth of this article.

Do you see very many Bush/Cheney bumper stickers yet? Mine was the only one til yesterday...we saw one at a bluegrass festival. We have our yard sign up, too! And I wear my "W 2004" pin all the time from aspendesigns.com

"We will bury you. And we will do it from the inside." ==

Just for the fact Khruschev said only first part of this phrase. And he meant that socialism will overlive capitalism. He said "bury" after Karl Marx the founder of theoretical communism that "communism will bury capitalism" EVENTUALLY.
So they both wrong:). The theory of Karl Marx has very cardinal mistakes. The practice of socialism was even worser.

Many people underestimate the brilliance and success of the anti-American propaganda created by KGB functionaries during the Cold War. To a very great degree they are responsible for much of the virulence that has taken seed on campus and in the newsrooms - those people were shrewd, articulate, and perhaps the very best in the world at what they did.

Next time you hear some pup regurgitating the stuff that passed for received wisdom during the Vietnam war (and Kerry certainly did) remember how pervasive and long-lasting a successful propaganda campaign can be. We'll still be fighting it long after the Soviet Union fades into distant memory.
