Legendary former New York City homicide detective "Bo" Dietl said Saturday that he was "shocked" by reports that Sen. John Kerry participated in a 1971 Kansas City meeting of the Vietnam Veterans Against the War where a plot to assassinate seven U.S. senators was considered.
"I was shocked listening to the story," Dietl told WABC Radio's Monica Crowley, who had just broadcast an update by the reporter who broke the news last week, the New York Sun's Thomas Lipscomb.
"I like John very, very much as a person," said Dietl, who's a personal friend of the Massachusetts Democrat. "But if this has any validity to it, it could be earth-shattering."
Dietl said Kerry may have committed a crime if he took part in any discussions about the assassination plot.
"When you talk about killing somebody, that's conspiracy to commit murder," he told Crowley. "At the point you talk about it you're guilty of a crime."
Dietl said it made no difference whether or not the plot was carried out, telling Crowley, "By just talking about it, it's the crime of conspiracy."
The former lawman, who now operates his own security firm, Beau Dietl & Associates, urged his old friend to come clean about the 1971 episode, warning, "Once they start to cover things up, that's when the crimes are going to start to begin again."
Dietl went out of his way to assure Crowley that, despite his comments, he has a warm relationship with the likely Democratic nominee, explaining: "John Kerry is a friend of mine. He was at my birthday party. I was at Mara Lago with him last year and he's a good person."

I did a search for Dietl on FR and didn't see this story posted.
Note I put it under "Crimes and Corruption" category.

I had no idea Bo Dietl would be friends with a guy like Kerry. He seems to be a pretty staunch conservative ex-cop when he's on Imus!

I've seen Dietl interviewed. He seems like a stand up guy - all man. I wonder why he thinks so highly of the sissy boy from Boston. The only reason I can think of has to do with someone's pocketbook or wallet.

You know, Bo is not a guy to piss off. This fella is a top knotch investigator and knows everyone. If He gets to thinking He's been made a fool of, this guy is liable to starting digging for dirt.
Hey..hope springs eternal, maybe He will.

"...urged his old friend to come clean about the 1971 episode..."Kerry "came clean" about being a war criminal. He announced it to the whole world. Nothing happened to him then and nothing has happened to him now.

"Legendary". Yeah, right. In his own mind.
Bo Dietl is a F.O.K. (Friend Of Kerry) thru Imus. He's been on there many times when Kerry phoned it. And I have heard that Dietl has donated to Kerry's campaigns over the years.

"When you talk about killing somebody, that's conspiracy to commit murder," he told Crowley. "At the point you talk about it you're guilty of a crime." Kerry's a pig. No doubt about that. If this guy is his friend, I can't have a very high opinion of him either. INAL, but this comment really sticks out and I think it is worthwile for everyone to keep it in mind! When libs make a**e* of themselves and Freepers get upset, I've noticed talk around here can get a little loose!

Deitl is friends with anybody remotely famous that pays attention to him.
His appearances on Imus consist of nothing more than continuous name-dropping.
The man's about as deep as a wading pool.

"I remember the Kansas City meeting like it was last week," said Barnes. She said Kerry read an emotional resignation letter while scores of VVAW members sat around long tables in a church classroom.
"He said he was going into public service, that he was going to run for office," Barnes said. "It was a short speech, but it was emotional. Everybody cheered."
Afterward, Barnes recalled, Kerry and others stepped outside the church for a break, only to see FBI agents taking pictures of them from across the street.

Will NO ONE ELSE comment on this story?? Why haven't Drudge or Sean or Rush made even a slight MENTION of this? Won't one major reporter cover the assassination plot story? It sounds like a scoop to me...

"At the point you talk about it you're guilty of a crime." Unfortunately, this is an inaccurate statement. The common law rule for conspiracy requires that two or more people actually agree and intend to agree to commit a crime and that one conspirator commits some overt act in furtherance of the conspiracy.
