'Timothy McVeigh set him up so he could cover up'

McALESTER, Okla. -- Terry Nichols went on trial for his life Monday in the Oklahoma City bombing and was alternately portrayed as an eager participant in the attack and a fall guy in a conspiracy wider than the government has acknowledged.

Nichols hated the U.S. government and worked hand-in-hand with Timothy McVeigh in assembling and detonating the ''huge, monstrous bomb,'' prosecutor Lou Keel said during opening statements in the state murder trial.

''These two were partners, and their business was terrorism,'' Keel said.

Nichols, wearing a gray sport jacket over a white, buttoned-down collar shirt, occasionally whispered to his attorneys but showed no emotion during the prosecution's opening statement.

Defense attorney Brian Hermanson countered that McVeigh and other conspirators were responsible for the bombing and Nichols was manipulated by McVeigh to take the blame.

''Timothy McVeigh set him up so McVeigh could cover up the others who acted in this conspiracy,'' Hermanson said.

Nichols, 48, is already serving a life sentence on federal changes for the deaths of eight federal law officers in the April 19, 1995, blast that killed 168 people. AP

Blockbuster stuff and proof that Clinton KNEW there was a possibility of foreign terrorism in the OKC matter but chose instead to blame homegrown terrorism and "pretend" they acted alone:

On Page 127 [of his new "Against All Enemies"], Clarke notes that it's possible that al-Qaida operatives in the Philippines "taught Terry Nichols how to blow up the Oklahoma Federal Building." Intelligence places Nichols there on the same days as Ramzi Yousef, and "we do know that Nichols's bombs did not work before his Philippines stay and were deadly when he returned."

Laurie Mylroie mentions foreign terrorism in connection with the OKC bombing frequently.

Also, the excellent book The News Jackals by Simon Reeve, written in 1999 (pre 9/11) makes extensive mention of Ramzi Yousef's involvement in the OKC bombing.

The author is a former editor of a major British newspaper and has excellent credentials. It's one of the best books on terrorism I've ever read.

You might want to consider the source of a proven liar before quoting it as credible.

You obviously didn't read the rest of my post so I will repeat it:

Clarke notes that it's possible

Possible, could have, might have, maybe... So, big VIP know it all god of anti-terrorism Clarke included a "possible"? Oh, come on. Of all people, Clarke should have a definite "he did it" or leave out hypothesis in a tell-all book. This only hurts his credibility even more.

You ALSO quoted Richard Clarke from his new book. Consider this source before using him in a quote is all I said.

Lest we forget... Ramzi yousef is considered to be an Iraqi agent. He also participated in the first Trade Center Bombing and in Project Bojinka (Sp?), a foiled plot which was to have destroyed 12 large airliners over the Pacific at the same time. He is the nephew of Khalid Sheik Mohammed, the 9/11 Mastermind, who is al Qaida.

Thus, we have a link between Iraq and al Qaida, World Trade Center Bombings I and II, bombs and airplanes and a whole lot of other stuff in these two guys.

How many times have we heard there is no connection between Sadam and the Twin Towers.

Good point(s). Why the White House doesn't talk about this more is beyond me.

That would be nice.

Anyway, don't expect and truth to come out in this trial. Nichols' lawyers are there to get him off, not prove the truth.

They'll point to Elohim City because, from what I can tell, McVeigh knew some characters there but Nichols did not.

The Defenders won't bring up the Philippines...but will the government? I doubt it...

I've always had the feeling that the whitehouse intends to put all of the findings together to prove Iraq was involved in terrorism. I hope it's so, because there is a lot there and when it's all presented together it's pretty powerful.

I don't think it's ever too late, but really don't know.

Maybe, but the FBI would fight tooth-and-nail to stop it getting out since it would implicate them in a major cover-up.

Liars don't lie all the time. That's the problem - trying to sift through the lies to find the truth!

True, but niether did Bill or Hitleryu Clinton. Trust either of them? Isn't this the same criteria that Democraps are applying to Bush for his lack of finding WMD's?
