good AM radios and some really potent AM antennae
I'm a little distant from NYC out on eastern Long Island, and especially at night my reception leaves something to be desired.

The thing that's strange about that is that I have digital cable, and have had DirecTV - and although both provide some vanilla music channels, neither of them provides talk "radio" audio. Must be your tax dollars at work in the FCC somehow. You'd think digital cable would come with a seperate FM output to give you solid reception of "local" AM signals superimposed on locally unused FM bands.

You can recommend the AM antennae?

"Laura's great -- clear thinking, strong convictions, articulate, funny -- but I also like Lee and Matt on her show."

I agree. I like a humor break at times.

Laura converted to Catholicism at Easter last year. She's probably too busy to find a good Catholic boy and settle down.

Pretty impressive credentials. I understand about increasing toughness. When I see how the Dems cheat at every front, and especially in the media (The Seattle PI's treatment of Susan Lindauer, who used to work for them, the neglect in the L.A. Times and the Washington Post of telling us why Kerry's VVAW meeting was "controversial" and not even mentioning the assassination plot, the presences of ANY story by David Espo or Ron Fournier) makes me not even want to listen to their "ideas" or give them the least benefit of a doubt.

You can recommend the AM antennae?

Sorry, I'm spoiled here in the Los Angeles metro area, so I've not had the need.

But...I'd make two quick suggestions
1. C. Crane is a big advertizer on Art Bell's (and his successors) show...and despite
all the wild aliens talk, Bell is an old hand at radio technology from even his
youth/military days.
It COULD be that the C. Crane adverts reflect a bit of an endorsement by Bell himself.

2. You might do what I do in looking for reviews/opinion on consumer prods.
Go to "Google"'s advanced search. If there is a product number that you
can lift from the C. Crane site, paste that in the second (exact search term) box,
then type a few general terms in the first box (e.g., radio, review, opinion, rating).
This sort of approach almost always gets me some sort of review of a product...
which, of course, I do read critically!

3. If you have any sort of electronics shop in your area that you trust
(even Radio Shack), you might print out the AM radio and antennae descriptions and
let the shops try to convince you they have something as good or better.

4. Depending on your needs/desires, you might "run the numbers" and see if something
like XM or Sirius radio could help you.
I've heard Sirius has a bit of liberal programming bent...but maybe your location might
make XM or Sirius an viable option. Plus, you could get tuners for home and house
and use the system when out-and-about.

Good luck!

If John Kerry thinks that attending European conferences and pushing Congress to ratify more international accords is going to endear him to the Europeans, he's sorely mistaken. He'd have better luck wearing French cuffs and buying a residence in Provence.

Kerry: "Okay, done that. What's step three?"

I picked up a Justin AM antenna from CCrane.com and Hey, what can I say, the darn thing works. It really reaches out and pulls faint stations. Just after sundown, I listen to Laura on a station (1220?) up in OK (Tulsa I think)...about 2-300 miles from here in the center of Louisiana. I also found her on a couple of other stations in South Louisiana and over in Texas. Oh, I love my Justin antenna...but not as much as I love Laura.
