Two adults, child hurt in 31st MetroRail accident
Houston Chronicle ^ | March 29, 2004, 3:41PM | By S.K. BARDWELL

Two adults and a child suffered minor injuries today when a driver collided with a Metro train in the Medical Center about 2:30 p.m. today.

Metro police officers said a woman ran a red light at Fannin and Binz, where lights in all four directions turn red when a train is passing.

The driver, with an adult and child passenger, then stopped on the Metro tracks, police said, and was struck by a train. Police said no one on the train was injured.

It is the 31st accident involving a Metro train since November.

>Then you have never been to Houston. These are not choo-choo trains. They are quiet, and even quieter when surrounded by street noise.

Oh, get out of here.
Even silent trains only
stay on their damn tracks,

and people always
have the option of looking
both ways! Duh. Get real.

Amen to your post.

I've ridden Houston's Metro Train, and let me tell you, riding in the train, and looking out the window -- it is SCARY to see the automobiles and their passengers SO VERY close, as the train speeds down the track.

Instinct tells one that the train should be farther away, and set apart from the street traffic.

This is never going to work, my opinion.

Also, the geniuses who devised this plan (which I did not vote for) eliminated a very badly needed lane of traffic through the Medical Center. It was congested BEFORE the train -- now it is impossible -- and that also accounts for the accidents. There's too many autos and no place for the autos to drive.

You know this is just getting rediculous...

I think if they spend any more friggin money on this thing...They should spend it on the most obvious way to get the poorer drivers in Houston the idea that something bigger and badder then them is coming down the way...

Crossing arms at every intersection...Regardless of the cost...That way the train can just blow and go...

And if someone is stupid enough to bust one of those things...Well they deserve to get hit...

But, I do know that that solution will mean more stuff to get out of sync and need maintenance almost everyday...

But its job security for the crews having to be on call 24/7 to keep those things working right...

Just an idea...

Later,
Steve

Figures. Lee Brown left a great legacy; just like the way he has always conducted his life. A great mess. You would think these politians would have some brains and common sense; but I guess with all our stolen money swirling around them; it makes them to dizzy to have good judgement.
