Which U. S. President started a war in which over 558,000 Americans were killed in a four-year period, for a rate of almost 140,000 per year?
Give you a hint: Some people around here revere him as the founder of the Republican Party.

"You Sir, have done a wonderful job reminding us."Thank you, but ...
The following appeared in the Durham, NC local paper as a letter to the editor.
I'll look to see if I can find it. All of this came from the link provided in #5.

Carter is certainly a strong contender, but I still think he is in a close race with Willard "I'm-playing-my-sax-while-the-world-collapses" Clinton. As more of his "legacy" is revealed, he is gaining on Carter.

George W. Bush is the best President of the United States of America. God bless our Commander-in-Chief!
The worst Presidents are Bill Clinton and Jimmy Carter.

Worst President ever? You might say he's an upstart and shook up a corrupted establishment. It's about time a President was thinking about US and not the UN. Now we know UN officals were taking oil bribes.

Presumably, you're talking about one of the greatest Presidents ever, one Abraham Lincoln from Springfield, Illinois.

Since leftists ("liberals") are so much more intelligent than everyone else, if they say he's the worst, he must be, right?

ah, Lincoln started the civil war? I think you have your "facts" mixed up somehwere.
After Lincoln was elected the south began to break away after he implored, quite eloquently I might add, for unity and Union (Remember " a house divided cannot stand against itself" ?) Then as I recall it was the South, not Lincoln who fired the first shots of the war (Remember Ft. Sumter?) Remember the first major battle of the war? We call it Bull Run, you might call it Manassas, that was fought because the south was positioning itself to invade Washington.
So you want to be mad at the man I can't stop you, but be mad for the right reason, he finished a war the south began

Facts? OK.
The Southern states voted to secede from the Union, which they believed was within their rights. Lincoln chose to try to resupply a fort that was located in a state that had seceded, thus prompting the armed conflict that followed at that fort.
The First Battle of Manassas (Bull Run, if you prefer) was fought when Federal troops invaded Virginia with the stated intent of capturing Richmond. To the best of my knowledge, Confederate plans up to that time were purely defensive.
We can certainly debate whether the Southern states started the war by seceding or Lincoln started it by refusing to allow the Southern states to secede. There is also significant debate about WHY the Southern states seceded. I believe that they did so because they considered the platform upon which Lincoln was elected to be a threat to their way of life.
Therefore, IMHO, Lincoln was in fact responsible for starting the War Between the States.

I was simply going to post "Jimmy Carter is the worst President of the 20th cetury." Your eloquent summation of the miserable failure that was, and is, Jimmy Carter, was outstanding.
To: bobjam
Outstanding job! You really distilled the disaster area that was the Carter presidency into a concise and very readable indictment.

Hmm, just a hunch but I'll wager General Sherman isn't high on your 'list' either.

Given the category here, U. S. Presidents, General Sherman does not even make the list.
President Grant on the other hand was very successful in the War (he was one of the few Union generals that could come up with a winning strategy even if it did waste men) but was a terrible president.
BTW, I consider Sherman to be a war criminal because he deliberately inflicted harm on non-combatants for absolutely no military purpose.

I KNOW he wasn't a President and your last sentence confirmed my 'hunch'. To you, Sherman was a war criminal.

George is the worst president you can get. In 3 years he started 3 wars. He had no right to go and bomd Iraq. And even if the other presidents started the wars they at least they ended them too. Inocent people have died because of Bush and his suspicions of "weapons of mass destruction". Terrorism is wrong and it should be ended and Afganistan had no right to attack the U.S. but Bush should have acted diffrently. You cant resolve everything with war. And he should have had more evidence before attacking Iraq. Instead of suspicions. I saw Farenheit 9/11 and I agree with what the director has to say about Bush...Worst president ever!

I listen to Radio Canada. When it comes to the US news (I listen for the international stuff), I swear the CBC just
goes by the Democratic National Committee talking points, just as the lamestream media does in the US. There is rarely any
difference.

OK I will admit it that G.W. Bush is in the list of worst ever presidents.
The voting goes as such, the lower the number the worse the president. The lower the number the worse the president. Vote as you feel but Clinton was not the worst president there have been worse. I shall try to be nice the the New-Deal president that stated he would stack the Supreme Court to get his ideas pass would possibly count as the #1 worst president, he started the mess we are in today.
Clinton 5 G.H Bush 90 G.W Bush 95 Ronald Reagan 99
