This monster gets a pass and Stewart goes to jail. You tell me gender has nothing to do with it.

The Stewart case is first about federal abuse of power. Second, she should have kept her mouth shut, plus she didn't get much legal defense for the money she spent on it.

Interesting take. Mine was that it would be good for the defense because they would have a better handle on how the prosecution was going to shape the case and be better prepared to defend it.

A completely ignorant opinion, I've no background in law, trials, etc. to have a sense if it holds water.

This is good for the defense. The vote was 11-1 to convict. Now the defense can hone their case and try to get 12 juror #4's on the next jury.

Excuse me, but are we still allowed to "discriminate" of the basis of skill, dedication, knowledge, honesty and showing up for work on time... and all those other obviously racist and bigoted criteria we have used over the years?

they will be retried, and absent this one kook juror, they will be convicted. there is a huge anti-corporate sentiment out there.

How about permanent six man juries made up of two retired cops, one priest, one minister, one rabbi and a retired SF operator or SEAL.... and 4/2 earns the defendant slammeramma.

Not sure your comment follows the thread closely, but, I get the drift. The answer is NO! The P.C. crowd wants us all to be equal, even if they have to discrimate against those with superior skills and qualifications to achieve this mythical equality.
To the P.C. crowd the worst thing you can be is all of those things you mentioned, and not be a minority of some form.

Count me in on that. When it's common place for people at the top to abuse the implied trust of their position, it's time to take corrective action.

Let's see, Steward (Broker for 20+ yrs; was on SEC committee of the NYSE) got caught doing an illegal trade, using insider trading. She then went on to lie, and to tamper with witnesses, just like Clinton. She was tried and found guilty. All for $50,000; which is less than 0.005% of her net worth. If you were worth $1 Million, would you risk jail and a career for a $500 transaction? Same scale.

Tyco executive are accused of grossly abusing their budgets for personal expenses. Things like billing the company hundreds of thousands of dollars for parties for their wives/girlfriends. Buying cars, trips, condos for their own use with company funds.

Now, it sounds like one of these idiots decided to threaten a juror; and was so arrogant as to put the threat in writing!! I'd recommend the 'chair' for the sole purpose of cleaning the gene pool.

You've heard of "jury nullification?" This was JUROR nullification---one juror (rightly or wrongly) decided that this case was unsupportable.

A bastardized form of jury nullification anyway. The question is-- did the lone juror believe that the law was being wrongly applied, or was she just stupid/bribed/intimidated...?

Bob Zelnick, former ABC network reporter covering DC and a self-described liberal Jewish lawyer/TV reporter, wrote a wonderful book on exactly what you describe.

He sees Afirmative Action as a complete disaster, especially for those minorities it was designed to help. Bottom line; all too often a minority who would do well at University of Kansas or somewhere like that is zoomed up to Harvard, where he cannot compete against other non-Afirmative Action students, fails out, and never goes back to a lesser school.

In the end, America loses too, because a younng black man or woman drops out and never makes the contribution to America that they could have had they graduated from U Kansas or somewhere like that.

"Afirmative Action" = We all lose.

Go to opensecrets.org and you will see that she never spends money very wisely. I have NO sympathy for Stewart, but in general I do feel that the move to indict "corporate crooks" is a subversive attack on capitalism.

Outside influence on a juror

This juror was already not going along with the rest of the jury pool before we heard about there being a possible mistrial and her name got out. She might have had people sending her letters after the fact but it doesn't seem like she was going to side with the prosecution anyway.

When it comes to crooked accounting and misappropriating other people's money, nobody can top the federal government. All the corporate indictments are leftover from the 2002 midterm elections when the incumbents wanted to shift blame for the economy to anyone but themselves.

Bush's fault? what a bunch of idiots.

{sarcasm} Don't you know everything is Bush's fault. If it rains it is his fault. If your tv breaks it is his fault. If your hamburger is cold it is his fault. If your favorite team loses it is his fault. It goes on and on. {/sarcasm}

She might be stupid, bribed or just didn't agree with the charges but she wasn't intimidated. If anything she stood up to the intimidation and didn't change her vote.

Yep, I guess you are correct. Clearly women shouldn't be allowed on juries, too easy to emotionally manipulate...
