Apr 3, 6:41 AM (ET) MADRID, Spain (AP) - Interior Minister Angel Acebes confirmed Saturday that the bomb found at a high-speed rail line a day earlier was made of the same type of explosives used in the Madrid terror bombings.
"The explosives are the same as those used on March 11, but at this moment the investigation is continuing ... to try to determine who is behind it," Acebes told reporters in Madrid.
Train service was restored Saturday after being interrupted a day earlier by the discovery of a 26-pound bomb hidden in a bag, the state rail company said.
Investigators have said the March 11 bombings were carried out with Spanish dynamite - Goma 2 Eco. The attack killed 191 people and injured 1,800.

Sometimes when you demonstrate cowardice in the face of the enemy by running away, you still wind up getting shot in the back. If, as the press accounts indicate, the explosives were of Spanish origin, then it takes us back to the original ETA-link hypothesis. I doubt that "Mahmoud" and "Abdul" walked into their friendly neighborhood explosives emporium and ordered up a mess of (highly regulated) explosives without some help from the inside.

Now that Spain has sent the loud & clear message that ''Terrorism Works'' in Spain, they've created an equal opportunity situation.

One of the first things an enemy will do to a nation is test the will and resolve of the government in power.
Al Queda and the Taliban got GW's answer in short order.
Socialist Spain has already indicated their willingness to surrender. This will get far worse for the Spainiards before it gets better.
Appeasement is a death sentence. It just takes a lot longer and it's much lonelier.
Prayers for our conservative friends in Spain who are reeling from the atrocious cowardice of their leftist liberals.

Well, I guess it's time for new leadership. This party's policies failed Spain. Bombs are now being put in place for another attack. Perhaps Spain should promise to disarm their military. I'm sure that would work. Sniker.

Has this been identified as "new", or was it possibly sitting around from the last attack?
Was it soaked from rain, etc? Has it been raining there?
I would expect them to sell this idea.
But they will have to answer why it was not found earlier...

The very short sighted view the present as only taking a stand pro or con vis a vis the Iraq War and make decisions based only on that narrow criterium. Spain has fallen into this trap.
Those who are wise and discerning view Iraq as only a small part of the global struggle pitting the forces of good against the forces of evil, with the ultimate outcome determining whether or not civilization as we know it will survive.
Spain has made a decision which is pro-evil and anti-good, whether or not they recognize that fact yet.

That would be a good twist.
I am just expecting the Spanish socialists to spin and twist this somehow.
Hopefully in the long run the Spanish people, and other thoughtful and cautious observers towards more of a hard line for the future. Common sense should eventually prevail, right?
I do not understand the lack of willingness to fight these guys on the left.
Everywhere they protest and scream about petty little things in the west. "the word "God" in any public postion for example.
Then they completely overlooking the lack of freedom and rights, abysmal treatment of women, and finally accept children blowing themselves into little pieces in the name of "God".
"cultural diversity".
I do think there is a desire for "good" an the left, there is a conscience, a desire to make things better. What I am trying to figure out is why this translates to a kind of self-loathing as America -loathing, you know?

should promise to disarm their military. I'm sure that would work. Sniker." "Andalucia's history is the opposite from the rest of Western Europe in that the Renaissance preceded the dark ages, not the other way around. From about 800-1500 A.D. an Islamic sect ejected from Syria brought learning, tolerance, and high arts to southern Spain, which thrived economically throughout much of the time when the rest of Europe was mired in poverty and brutal intolerance of new ideas. That's not to say that the Islamic rulers welcomed the Jews and Catholics into the culture. Indeed, apartheid ruled. The nonIslamic peoples were heavily taxed and segregated into crowded quarters. Periods of severe intolernace flared from time to time. On the other hand, Islamic law considered Jews and Christians the children ofIslam, and they were protected from genocide - when rulers respected the law. A good source of history is ashort book, "Moorish Spain", by Richard Fletcher ISBN 0-520-08496-9."

Right on target!
It's correct that they want to convert the whole world to Islam (and by force at that!)....we in the West need to recall early world history (11 - 14th century) where Islam swept much of the known world (and controlled most of Spain) thru the power of the sword.

[W]e in the West need to recall early world history (11 - 14th century) where Islam swept much of the known world (and controlled most of Spain) thru the power of the sword. I work at a large defense contractor near Boston. In 2001 we had "Diversity Week" at work. You got an opportunity to have goat curry in the cafeteria, if so inclined and among other delights, a gentleman of Pakistani birth did a lunchtime presentation on Islam. Being intellectually curious and, I flatter myself to think, open-minded, I attended. The thesis of his presentation, at the bottom, was that the current ascendency of the West was an historical anomoly and that in the future - perhaps the very near future - Islam would be ascendent once again. I quietly left during the early part of the Q&A.
I found the presentation childish, insulting, historically ignorant and just plain boneheaded and said as much privately to others who had attended. They could not bring themselves to agree. (The presenter was an obnoxious and persistent type, not the kind of person you'd want to get in an arguement with over something where you might have a chance to make a difference, like a technical point. I knew there was absolutely no chance that I could influence his bigoted and closed mind.)
A few monthes later, when 9-11 happened and four people from our company and a several people from my small town (One of them had a kindergartener daughter in the school where my wife teaches.) rode to their deaths in the cause the advancing worldwide Islam, I couldn't help looking daggers at him whenever I encountered him.

"From about 800-1500 A.D. an Islamic sect ejected from Syria brought learning, tolerance, and high arts to southern Spain"
Actually, Islamic Spain was ruled by North African's (Almohads) from about 1100 AD till the place fell. They were not entirely tolerant people. The Christians of Spain didn't keep the Reconquista going for that long for nothing.
There almost nothing the Muslims brought to Spain that didn't exist in the Greek/Roman/Persian world before the Arab conquest of the Middle East. When the Arabs conquered the Middle East in the 600's AD, they found a rich, technologically advanced, populated, and relatively peaceful Middle East. Western Europe was being attacked on three fronts, Arabs from the South, Vikings from the North, and Asiatics from the East.

In my opinion this push toward diversity is designed for only one thing, it's to splinter our cohesive nature and make us vulnerable.
The push to make every language of the world our own, instead of one language does just that. The push to have multiple ethnicities going at each others throats at city council meetings across the nation, is just that.
I am convinced that some master plan is being implemented to take down the nation the only way it could be, from within.
Our leaders have a lot of splainin to do.

I take it you are from Spain. For your sake, I hope you were not one of the faint hearted ones. But whether you personally voted for surrender or not, your country certainly did. Spain surrendered after a single attack.
Your country is unwilling to help the United States defeat an enemy that seeks the destruction of Western civilization, and the forced conversion of all mankind to a radical version of Islam.
WE are willing to fight that fight, with friends if we can, but alone if need be. If we win, Spain survives. If we lose, Spain will surely fall. That Spain will not help fight a common foe is a disgrace to Spain, not the United States.
Al Qaida did not think Spain had the heart to fight, and they were right.

I hope that AQ does not influence our election and you don't end up speaking the Kerry French a couple of days before elections.

You can call it anything you want if it makes you feel better, but the fact remains: Spain withdrew from the fight against terror as a direct result of a single terrorist attack. The terrorists won.
