I'm trying to connect my PC to my TV. I can't get that to work unfortunitly. If there are any PC experts, can anyone explain what that bottom right connector (next to the audio jack connector) goes to? It looks like it would go to something like what a mouse/keyboard uses, but I don't see anything spare like that on my PC. Many thanks for your help.

If you don't get good answers I'll try and have hubby help you when he returns, he's putting a new radio in the car,and all he seems to do is this sort of thing and I'm sure he could help you. But you probably will get the answer before he gets back.

It looks like an S-Video jack. This is a connector that works with a video device.

If you need to connect your PC to your TV then the best bet, IMHO, is to get a Creative Labs Video Blaster card. Mine works great and I can watch TV in a window.

Unless you have a TV out jack at the back of your computer, you need a scan converter to display the computer monitor picture on a TV. Either Focus' Enhancements TVView or and AverKey Scan Converter should give you the picture. You'll need to run the monitor cable through the scan converter and connect that to the monitor input of your computer, then plug in the TV cable and the converter power supply before the picture shows up on the TV. Hope this helps.

That is an S-Video connection.

If you have a similar one on you TV, then use it.

If you have just a single (usually yellow) RCA plug on your TV (looks like female side of the red and green audio plug), you can get an adapter at Radio Shack.

Ask for an S-Video to Composite adapter.

The cable is a VIVO cable(Video In Video Out), the lower right connector is an S-Video connector which should be plugged into the S-Video port on a graphics card which MUST have a S-video port usually below the port where you plug your 15-pin vga/monitor cable. If your graphics card does NOT have this S-video port, you cannot do video output to a TV -- you must upgrade the video card or buy a third party product.

Forgot to say, if you don't have a specialty card already, an S-Video jack will not plug into your PC.

Well nix the Creative solution, it's no longer made.

Are you trying to watch TV on your PC, or PC on your TV?

That is an S-Video connector. It goes to your video card in your PC. I you don't have a matching connector on your video card, you will need to get one (they are cheap) that has S-Video out or else an RCA style connector (that is the kind of connector the plugs on the left go into).
About the highest resolution you will be able to display is 800x600 when using the TV.

An excellent choice for pc-tv connections is the ATI All-in-Wonder series of cards. Older versions can be had on eBay for cheap (I paid about $30 for a 1998-series card). Top of the line brand new cards go for about $140.

ATI All-in-Wonder is really the gold standard for video capture and tv-out applications.

I think he's trying to watch PC on his TV. The most common reason for doing that is to watch DVDs on your TV, if you have a DVD-ROM drive.

Do not expect to be able to use your TV as a monitor. Most/all TVs are too blurry (lower resolution) for text applications like word processing or e-mail or freeping. You will get a headache.

For general use, or to output graphics/dvds to a tv, it will work just fine.

You can also get a video card such as the Radion 9000 which as a TV out built in.

Depending on which card you have, it may have either an S-Video style connector, or an RCA (Composite) connector.

I bought one of these myself, specifically to get the TV out.

If you are attempting to connect your tv set to your 'puter, so that you can watch the stuff that is stored on the hard drive on your tv.. you need a video card IN your computer with a TV OUT jack in the video card..

I have a ATI All In Wonder 9000 Pro card.. this card has a stereo TV tuner, this allows watching tv ON your computer, of course, it also has the TV Out line as well.. but - with ATI's Multimedia Center, the card also allows the RECORDING of tv programs, or video tapes directly into MPEG 2 format, which, at the proper resolution, can then be authored into DVD Format, which is then ready to burn onto DVD.

Most PCs do NOT conntct to the telly. SOME can do so, but only if they are manufactured with a "TV-Out" function, and it appears that yours is not. You can also purchase an aftermarket card that will allow you to do this, but be warned that the resulting image is not suitable for normal PC-type work, as in letters and spreadsheets.

Thanks for the advice. I'm trying to convert this to get a movie done for a project that I did on the computer. Here's another idea/question, please reply if you know.

Can DVD burners burn MPG files onto a CD and thus create a DVD? Kind of like how I have a CD burner and I can create my own CD (with legal songs of course, as I'm no longer in Kazaa).

Which is actually impossible with many video cards. It actively blocks the video for reasons of copy protection. You'll see the DVD player open, but there will only be a black box on screen.
