America no longer white, united, English-speaking

In 1960, when JFK defeated Nixon, America was a nation of 160 million, 90 percent white and 10 percent black, with a few million Hispanics and Asians sprinkled among us.
We were one nation, one people. We worshipped the same God, spoke the same English language, studied American history and English literature, honored the same heroes, read the same books, watched the same TV shows, went to the same movies and saw ourselves as defenders of Western civilization against the godless communism of the Soviet Empire.
We were confident and proud of who we were. That was yesterday. But due to the Immigration Act of 1965 and the cultural revolution of the '60s, that America is now gone forever. And as one studies the latest projections of the Census Bureau, the America of our grandchildren will be another country altogether, a nation unrecognizable to our parents, a giant Brazil of the North.
In 2050, there will be three times as many people living here as in 1960 -- 420 million. White Americans will be a minority, 49 percent, and falling. Hispanics in the United States, more than 100 million, will be equal to the population of today's Mexico. Our Asian population will be almost as large as our African-American population today.
By countries of origin, America will be a Third World nation. Our cities will look like Los Angeles today. Los Angeles and the cities of Texas, Arizona and California will look like Mexico City.
Writing in Foreign Policy, Harvard Professor Samuel Huntington, author of Who We Are, raises an alarm about the huge infusion of Hispanics into the Southwest, and for many reasons.
Much of this mass immigration is illegal. Vast numbers are coming here only to work. They are not assimilating. They do not want to become Americans. They are concentrating in states bordering Mexico, which is their country and a nation with a historic grievance against us. They are holding on to their language and culture, creating a Hispanic nation within our nation. By 2050, there will be scores of millions of people living here whose loyalty is to a foreign country.
Moreover, as multiculturalism has captured our schools and colleges, immigrant children will have prejudices and grievances against America and the West reinforced as they learn. The academic elite that controls these schools already paints America as a nation with a rancid history of genocide, slavery, racism, oppression and imperialism.
Is the Census Bureau future the future that Americans wish? No. Are they willing to risk it for their grandchildren? No.
Why, then, does that future appear inevitable?
Answer: Though a majority of Americans wish to preserve the land they grew up in for their children, our elites -- political, academic, cultural and corporate -- are either unwilling to conserve that America or indifferent to its disappearance.
Most Americans want immigration cut back and all illegal aliens sent back. Why is the will of the majority, expressed in polls and referenda, not reflected in law or policy? Because we no longer live in a democratic republic; we are ruled by a managerial elite.
America's corporate elites want an endless supply of cheap labor. Our judges throw out popularly enacted laws to which they object. Our academic elites work to see ''white, racist America'' disappear. Our neo-Marxist cultural elites wish to be the gravediggers of the West and of Christian culture. And America's conservative party, the Republican Party, believes that Hispanics hold the key to retention of presidential power and is anxious not to offend Mexican President Vicente Fox.
If, by 2050, the America we grew up in has become a Tower of Babel of squabbling minorities that is falling apart, it will be because of the treason of the elites, and our lack of will to overthrow them.

While I don't particularly care for Patrick Buchanan, and the title of this piece is rather racist in tone, I'd say this is one of those times when he hits one home.

Our cities will look like Los Angeles today. Los Angeles and the cities of Texas, Arizona and California will look like Mexico City. San Antonio has almost always been a Tejano dominated city. (Not quite, at the turn of the 18 to 19th century there were more Gringos, mostly Germanic but also Scots-Irish, than Latinos, but the Hispanic "flavor" was still evident). In any event, even today when the "Mexicans" far outnumber us Gringos, it still doesn't look like Mexico City. While there are lots of new immigrants, legal and (mostly) otherwise, San Antonio is also known as Military City, USA, and sends a higher percentage of its sons and daughters to the military than most any city of comparable size. We've lost quite a few of those in Iraq, I might add. One was a kid who attended high school just a couple of miles from me.

I think Pat just described the rise and fall of the United States of America. He isn't a racist. He just wants immigrants to come here legally and assimilate. The great melting pot is no longer. We have groups of hypenated americans who prefer not to be plain americans. They want their own cultures to predominate. A house divided cannot stand, or United we stand, divided we fall. The USA will crumble from within in another hundred years.

most Latinos are white. I would argue that. Most Cubans and South American spanish speaking immigrants are indeed Caucazoid primarily but the massive waves of Mexican and Central American legal and illegal immigrants are not. They are primarily either pure Amerindians or Meztizos.

The elites want to destroy self-government. They harness the power of the "victim groups" by dangling government money and special rights in front of them.
Government goodies (especially free "education" in government child-warehouses) and all group rights need to be abolished. A free market encourages integration, learning the language, assimilating to the dominant culture.
To: dljordan

"He's completely wrong. It doesn't matter if we become factionalized, hyphenated "Americans"." I am not sure that you are be facitious or not.
So, jsut in case your are not, I think you need to re-read the following paragraph composed by Pat Buchanan.
This is the crux of the matter:
"Much of this mass immigration is illegal. Vast numbers are coming here only to work. They are not assimilating. They do not want to become Americans. They are concentrating in states bordering Mexico, which is their country and a nation with a historic grievance against us. They are holding on to their language and culture, creating a Hispanic nation within our nation."
If the immigrants are legal and wish to assimilate, I would suggest that most current citizens would have not problem with Mexican immigrants.

Aside from Japan and a few Pacific rim nations, can you think of any other "Non-White" "First World" nations aside from maybe Bermuda or Cayman?
I'm really not here to fight with you at all but there seems a disconnect around here sometimes between reality and paltitudes.
The fact is that aside from the few nations I just mentioned, there are no non-white First World nations at this time and those that once where and where whites have lost power are backsliding. That's the reality.
I think Pat misses the boat here by emphasizing race rather than culture which is the relevant key to me. Productive culture is not always race or ethnicity defined.
Regards.

Pat seems pessimistic that anybody but white Europeans can make good Americans. How shocking. I wonder if he knows that only 20% of third generation Hispanics in the US speak Spanish as their daily language at home. Pat probably doesn't care, even if he knows. They're brown (except of course the ones that are not); end of story.
Pat also bemoans that the Asian population by 2050 will be as large as the black population of today. What do you think of Asians Pat? Worried that your grandkids won't be able to compete with them. Oh, I forgot, you don't have kids. What kind of example is that for preserving the white European face of America, Pat?
I like Pat. He's so good for target practice.

Tower of Babel of squabbling minorities that is falling apart California - invaded by millions of illegal aliens from failed, third world regimes, lured by the guarantee of endless freebies paid for by Americans. California is now bankrupt, but the freebies for illegal aliens continue.

You could say "Pat" Boone in their presence and they would go off in the tirade that automatically follows their knee-jerk reaction to the letters P-a-t.
They've been totally conditioned to this response by the same people that hijacked their party.

I see him saying that he is alarmed about America no longer having the same culture that it once had. I did not read the article sadly but I share that view emphatically. In fact, that is my major beef with illegal immigration aside from the immediate practical concerns. I know of no nation or culture in history to have surrendered so easily as ours nor to think that surrendering is wonderful and the "right thing". We have many on what is arguably the largest conservative site in the USA cheering on the demise of our founding culture....that says plenty doesn't it?

IMO, the data articulated by Pat is correct ... the numbers of white and non-white, for instance.
If that's true, and the comparison of now vs. 40 years ago is also true ... one would have to determine if there is value in contemplatinmg the prospect of increasing or decreasing those numbers.
This is the thought pattern of the policy makers.
Given we are supposed to be represented in government and not dictated to, we are then forced to recognise that the imigration pattern is not in sync with the desires and expectations of those of us whom claim to be American.
An argument can be made (and often is) regarding the definition of an American, thereby clouding the original point of discussion, which was a statement regarding the ethnic and racial make-up of America.
All that being said ... I think discourse amongst ourselves should be better directed towards idea sharing and opinion rather than the socialist tactic of saying Pat's a nut.
Don't you agree?
