Rice is much too valuable to take the fall
LA Daily News ^ | 4/3/2004 | Earl Ofari Hutchinson

Posted on 04/04/2004 11:52:53 AM PDT by Political Junkie Too

Ever since former Bush counterterrorism adviser Richard Clarke testified that National Security Adviser Condeleezza Rice was largely to blame for the lack of preparedness before the 9-11 terror attacks, the tongues have wagged furiously about her future.

A White House damage-control effort has been busily under way, and Rice has dropped her opposition to publicly testifying under oath before the 9-11 Commission. Yet it will take much work to undue the collateral damage from Clarke's attack and Rice's week of foot-dragging before finally succumbing to public pressure.

Conventional wisdom holds that her days in politics are numbered. Some predict she will exit the White House if President George W. Bush wins a second term, if not before. Time magazine has bluntly asked, "Is Condi the Problem?"

Could this be part of a plan to eliminate Condi Rice as a potential opponent for Hillary! in 2008?

It will be interesting to watch the Demorats engage in a "high tech lynching" on another prominent black American. It will be the final nail in the coffin for revealing the highly partisan nature of the Congressional investigation into 9-11.

I would like to focus on the following:
The Bush administration was in office 9 months before 9/11 happened.
The Clinton Administration for eight years and despite repeated Terrorist actions against us and the world, he did nothing to stop it. He even let Bin Laden go when he was offered to him by Sudan. A total withhunt by the Media Elites who have the power in this country, instead of the people.
Since we are dumbing down America more and more it will become easier to influence and control the minds of the masses.

would like to focus on the following: The Bush administration was in office 9 months before 9/11 happened.

And I would also focus on how, in those 9 months in office, the Senate Democrats were obstructing the confirmation process and refusing to allow Bush to put his team together. Furthermore, I would focus on how the Clinton administration held up the White House transition funds during the Gore court challenge, thereby denying Bush another month of organizing before being sworn in.

The day will come sooner than you think. My not get into the habit now and refine those excerpting skills?

If the Left can't shut down FreeRepublic entirely (and they have tried), then they will restrict FreeRepublic as much as possible by denying us the full content of as much as possible.

It won't matter, but the days of full-text posting are numbered, not Condi's White House stint.

The Dems have several disgraceful goals in regard to Dr. Rice:

1) force Rice's resignation

2) once Rice has resigned, excoriate Bush for making Rice take the fall and not accepting responsibility for the 9/11 attacks himself

3) play the race and gender cards with respect to #2

4) neutralize Rice's potential to run for any political office, including the presidency

The commission is going to ambush Dr. Rice at the hearings this Thursday. I have tremendous faith in Dr. Rice's abilities, but her performance won't change the Dem's plans. The Dems already have their conclusions drawn and they aren't going to let facts get in their way.

My hope is that the Dems' game will only cause Bush to draw Dr. Rice in closer - as it did in the summer of 2002, when the Dems first started calling for her resignation.

Ms. Rice is going to wipe the floor with these pikers.

I dunno. Didn't she recently let herself get steamrollered by that fossilized hack Ed Bradley? She was not prepared for Bradley even though there is a 20-year history of Bradley's "interviewing technique" of dishonest rhetorical questions, badgering, and rude interruptions. There is a way to combat this (juvenile, self-aggrandizing) technique but nobody gave Condi a heads-up.

I sure hope she is better prepared for the scumbags on this "commission".

Democrat Senator Nimrod: "Do you, Condoleeza Rice, swear to tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth so help you God?"

Condoleeza Rice: "I do."

Senator Nimrod: "Please proceed."

Condoleeza Rice: "The truth is that Bill Clinton's main priority for eight years was his penis. He delegated decision making to career-climbing, self-serving, incompetent arrogant jackasses like Richard Clarke, and nincompoops like Madeleine Albright. Had Clinton at least a modicum of concern for anything than his next b..w job, 3,000 Americans might not have perished on 9/11/2001."

Comments on several threads suggested that Condi fell victim to selective editing by CBS on that 60 minutes interview...FWIW, and, of course, in hindsight, she shoulwe have insisted on the entire segment being broadcats..no edits...and, oh yeah, she IS gonna wipe the floor with Clark...last night on SNL, they did a skit of Clarke testifying before the 9/11 commission, and they pilloried him...

I didn't mean to pick on you - I'm just a little sensitive on this subject because David Gregory, major clymer of NBC, takes great pleasure in saying NINE MONTHS.

No truer words have been spoken. This kangaroo court was exposed when clarke's book was used as gospel to badger rep. witnesses. Now, we have commissioners going around appearing on talk shows and leaking private testimony. And we're suppose to believe they're relevant? This commission is a sham and all should have recognized that when hearings were demanded in time of war and an election year.

Well, September IS the ninth month. Setting aside the FACT that Bush was sworn on on the 20th day of January (that's 2/3rds the way into the month for those of you in Rio Linda), and that 9/11 happened on the 11th day of the month, between the two partial months, you have seven full months and a few days.

Too much math for Gregory. I hope he doesn't have to worry about word problems like "If a train left Madrid at 7:00am going 60MPH...

"A White House damage-control effort has been busily under way, and Rice has dropped her opposition to publicly testifying under oath before the 9-11 Commission. Yet it will take much work to undue the collateral damage from Clarke's attack ..."

This whole media SPIN bothers me immesnely.

Clarke lied, or at least said stuff that was demonstrably false. The White House shouldnt have been the ones to correct this, the MEDIA should have. This description is devoid of the underlying TRUTH at stake: Clarke is simply false when he says that the Clinton administration was serious about terrorism for 8 years but Bush administration didnt do enough in 8 months - facts are stubborn things and they disprove him 100%.

Here we have the usual media stalking-horse technique for dragging the administration down:
1. Find a vehicle for lobbing an unfair attack. (Clarke)
2. Report on it without ANY COMMENT on its veracity, give it as much authority as possible (ie point out how Clarke has served in X many administrations, but fail to point out how he voted for Gore, supports Kerry, and has a book to sell and is possibly exaggerating to garner attention for himself).
3. When nobody in the press critiques it fairly wait for Bush administration to respond. Then label any such comments as a "furious" response and make it sound as political as possible.

The end result: You have succeeded in planting this as a plausible story which only 'Bush supporters' deny, even though the original charge is totally baseless. The media falls down on the job.

Isnt media bias charming?

Another thing that gets little mention is that the entire month of April, 2001 was taken up with the international incident involving our surveillance plane that was forced down over Hainan Island in China. This was a severe crisis and test for such a young presidency.

No doubt there was a lot of diplomacy behind the scenes even after the crew had been released from their "detainment" (I prefer to consider that they were hostages).

Most of the Democrats that I know really dislike Rice. The have claimed (since before 2000) that Rice is living in the 1980s and sees the Soviet Union as the main enemy.

My opinion is that the Democrats should worry that their wishes may be granted.
