"I'm looking forward to this opportunity in the Georgetown University. It will be a privilege to me joining the staff of this internationally important institution in the areas of international relations and political studies", Aznar said in a communicate of the University.

Not only has Aznar conducted an appropiate foreign policy, he also masterminded Spain's economic recovery.

Curiouser and curiouser, and to think Georgetown is hiring a Catholic as well -- remember how Cardinal Arinze was greeted at Georgetown for daring to speaking up for the Church's teaching on homosexuality.

At least those students will be taught by someone who has acutally DONE the work rather than just read books and done research about it.

I want to know when he will join the lecture circuit. I want to support these brave statesmen. If anything happens to Tony Blair, I hope he comes here too.

Yes, it's for real. It's all over the Spanish press.

Good news! Good for Georgetown! The university's foreign affairs program is rightly well known, and this will certainly be a plus.

Are the Jesuits offering such teaching appointments to conservatives?

been doing so at GU for decades...........

GU has been a stronghold of conservative values for a very long time. Sure there are a few commies there, but the overwhelming majority of Profs & Students are seriously conservative

Circa 1978-79 a large group of Leftie & Iranian Pro-Kohmeni (sp ?) protesters approached the Univeristy gates from the outside chanting the usual anti-US slogans. They apparently wanted the undergrads to welcome them onto campus and join them in a massive anti-US/CIA/etc protest.

About 200 students, who were otherwise hanging out on the lawn, walked up to the gates barring the protesters entrance and started singing "God Bless America".

The protesters were stunned (I'll never forget the looks on their pathetic faces). They shut up and walked away totaled humbled, never to be seen again.

That spirit is alive and well at GU today.

That's good to hear. Guess they make more room for conservatives in their political science department than they do in theology (or should I say "religious studies"?).

still called Theology and the Jebbies at GU didn't spout any muddleheaded Liberation nonsense, although they did preach thoughtful retrospection. One of the Berrigan bros came and gave a speech and the Jebbies always put Ceasar Chavez up when he came into DC.......but the intro courses used what are considered horribly conservative thinkers: Teilhard D'Chardin(sp?), Reinhold Niehbur (sp?), and Ortega Y Gassat.

Some Profs at the time were Jan Karski (google him for a compelling story of a Polish Freedom fighter), Jeane Kirkpatrick (Regan's UN Ambassador who made Thatcher look like a wuss), and a WWII Col. (whose name is best left unsaid) who came into class the day the US Embassy was seized in Teheran muttering under his breath something about camel jockeys & making Eye-ran one big glass parking lot.

Guess I've been taking Theological Studies as representative of Jeuits in general. Some far-out articles in their flagship theological journal, to which I've subscribed for over twenty years.
