How can he blog without power? The telephone system typically works even when electrical power is out (telephone central offices have enormous backup batteries and/or generators). If he's using a laptop on battery power, that would explain it.

coup d'etat?
A bit melodramatic. More like the last gasp of the Saddam loyalists and various other Mafia like groups.

Second front in Iraq: Shiite revolt
Monday, the US issued a warrant for Sadr's arrest.
By Dan Murphy | Staff writer of The Christian Science Monitor
SADR CITY, IRAQ As US marines enveloped the restive Sunni Triangle city of Fallujah to respond to the murder and mutilation of four US contractors there last week, a new and potentially more dangerous front was opening in the south - with members of Iraq's Shiite majority.

I should also add that a lot of the Iraqis who could do so got themselves generators during the rein of Saddam, since electricity wasn't the most reliable thing during those times. He might be one of those folks.

Japanese press reported in the Japanese language on the internet (I read it earlier and could not believe my eyes) that 'Iraqi insurgents' have actually
succeeded in capturing the city hall of Basra, in the south.
Whether that can be confirmed or not is out of my paygrade, but I am getting some international press "chatter", such as this article in this thread, that some provocative things are starting to go down. Might tie in with the cancellation of Bremer's DC trip just now, and the discussion to up US troop presence ASAP that was out earlier this a.m.

Foxnews just gave an update on Fallujah, said they were bringing an AC130 Gunship, that should be spectacular

and you wondered why the Arab States meeting mysteriously broke down a couple weeks ago? I bet Iran has a big part in this, along with S.A.
if the South goes, then we should just give the Kurds the north (and let them lay waste to Fallujah) and get the flock out!

No coverage of this on the cable news stations....

The Military should have finished the war before rushing for a political settlement.
It sounds like the starting of civil war to see which thugs gain power.
I keep thinking this is rapidly turning into a Somalia-type situation run by thugs and warlords and factions.

A coup d'etat is taking place in Iraq a the moment. Al-Shu'la, Al-Hurria, Thawra (Sadr city), and Kadhimiya (all Shi'ite neighbourhoods in Baghdad) have been declared liberated from occupation. Looting has already started at some places downtown, a friend of mine just returned from Sadun street and he says Al-Mahdi militiamen are breaking stores and clinics open and also at Tahrir square just across the river from the Green Zone. Wow, isn't that "liberation" from the Great Satan just grand?
To: John Jorsett
What a bunch of kooks. A coup?! HA!
Like this band of ragged rabble can wrestle away power from the mighty United States of America!
Go ahead... make my day.
