"From what I understand the guys who make South Park can crank out an episode in under a week. Whats the problem with the creators of the simpsons, havent they discovered computers yet?"

You might note that the two shows utilize two very different animation techniques. "South Park" is sort of like Colorforms and stop-motion photography. "The Simpsons" is your traditional, frame-by-frame animated cartoon - much more time-consuming.

South Park WAS colorforms and stop motion, but that process takes forever so they abandoned it after a few episodes (that actually put in an episode just how painful the stop motion process is when the kids tried to remake the first episode). Then somebody figured out how to make computer animation look almost exactly like colorforms (they never got the shadow under things like in stop motion) but can do a whole ep in a few days.
