A SENIOR US senator today called for the United States to withdraw from Iraq in the wake of a recent surge in violence and mounting military casualties there.
"The harsh reality is this: one year after the fall of Baghdad, the United States should not be casting about for a formula to bring additional US troops to Iraq," said West Virginia Democrat senator Robert Byrd on the floor of the US Senate..
"The United States should instead be working toward an exit strategy.".
Byrd made his comments as US troops battled uprisings in Sunni and Shi'ite sections of Iraq - military operations deemed by many experts to be the riskiest since the fall of Baghdad..
In one of the most recent attacks, US forces overnight bombed a mosque compound in the Iraq city of Fallujah after US troops had been targeted by gunfire coming from the building. .
Byrd laid blame for the recent US troop casualties resulting from the spiralling violence at the doorstep of US President George W Bush..
"The President sent these men and women into Iraq, and it is his responsibility to develop a strategy to extricate them from that troubled country, before their losses become intolerable," he said..
"America needs a road map out of Iraq."

I have to give McCain credit, he can to the floor and blasted Byrd and Kennedy! Too bad they probably weren't listening.

Three choices - pull out the troops [Byrd]- send in enough troops to do the job [McCain] - status quo [Bush] keeps targets on the back of troops. Job #1 is to tell the troops what they have to do to come home and support them to do it.

In defense of those who encouraged Lott to leave, it was a heck of a lot more than those comments that made so many eager to show him the door. A lot of us had wanted him gone for years, and as hypocritical as it was, it was a good enough excuse. On balance, fewer principles were violated by getting rid of Lott than by keeping him.

Oh I agree Lott needed to go, but Dodds comments were really over the topgiven his past history in the Klan.
In a speech on the Senate floor last Thursday marking Sen. Robert Byrd's 17,000th vote in the body, Dodd said the West Virginia Democrat, member of the Ku Klux Klan before taking office and opponent of the 1964 Civil Right Act, "would have been right during the great conflict of Civil War in this nation."

No Mr. Byrd, an "exit strategy" is what you and your white hooded, coward-ass buddies needed after burning a cross on someone's lawn so you didn't get your scrawny little asses kicked!!
What this president and his advisors strive for is a "victory strategy". That's the difference between you "cut and run" liberal pus*ies and us, who when faced with these islamo-fascist scumbags proudly provide the introductions they so desire to ALLAH!!!!

MAY HE LEAVE OBVSIOUSLY A BITTER DERRANGED CREATURE. MAY HE NEVER HAVE ANY INFLUENCE OVER EVEN ANY SINGLE OTHER PERSON EVER AGAIN THE REST OF HIS DAYS. MAY HE EVEN RAPIDLY LOSE INFLUENCE EVE OVER HIS OWN CARE, IN JESUS' NAME. AMEN!
