Yer Honor, the formality and tradition of the Catholic, Episcopal, Lutheran, Methodist or Presbyterian Churches is a comfort to some of us while the more relaxed form of worship and fellowship is a comfort to others. I find that in my own family - my brother and being a Southern Baptist and myself Episcopalian. I am as uncomfortable in the relaxed atmosphere of his church as he was growing up in the formality of the Episcopal Church. My son is Baptist.

It isn't where we worship, but the fact that we do worship GOD. Each in our own way. No matter what name we give HIM, we are all his children and I know it pains HIM to see us fighting among ourselves. HE gave HIS only begotton SON to us and we sacrificed him on the Cross. HE came to teach us peace and love for one another.

St. Paul's has a very professional Choir and when I heard them the first time, I knew that this would be one choir that I wouldn't be singing in.

Several years ago they did Handel's Messiah at Christmas. What glorius music rose from their throats.

Thank you for the Hymn.

If you are not familiar with the Stations of the Cross, check this out. This post explains wonderfully the Catholic teaching and describes what Mel Gibson follows quite faithfully in the Passion.

My loving Jesus, it was my sins, not Pilate, that condemned You to die. . .

Thank you for all your input here, dixie.
Yes, we all come before God in different ways - and the significant thing is we know we can, no matter what the form!

As the granddaughter of a minister (and two great-grandfathers), I as a child attended Sunday School and still have my Certificate of Promotion to the Primary Class..:))
Had already memorized the books of the Bible by then.

Moving to the country at age 9, during WWII, gas rationing meant not being able to go to church regularly, living 12 miles away. (Resumed in junior and high schools and sang in the choir)

It was that setting that shaped a definite personal relationship with Him, placing my hand in His on a dark road and letting Him show me the things that are His Creations!
My trust and faith were thus permanently set, and He flung me hither and yon throughout many circumstances and in and through many states during my decades.

I've experienced America from a line all the way from above the Arctic Circle in Alaska (lived in Fairbanks 3 1/2 years), back through Canada and down the Rockies, across the South, and to the Keys of Florida.

From the Keys I've been up and down the Eastern seaboard several times and in that end of Canada - lived in South Dakota, twice in Ohio, several times in Florida (my home state); Rochester, New York; two places in Virginia and two in North Carolina - in South Carrolina five times.

He made me 'an American child,' always His, and an Appreciator of His Creations.

At 9, I took note Jesus never as an adult preached in any structure resembling a 'church,' but rather in homes and on hillsides and seasides, or wherever a crowd was.
He wore simple robes and had dusty sandals on His feet.

My beliefs thus were attuned to the unstructured places everywhere I went, never requiing special clothes or a building or a particular denomination or formality.
We may come before Him wherever we are - and however we look.
He sees only our Soul - - -

My most meaningful times have been 'talking' with Him while I drive, and while looking at things in the landscape He wanted me to see.

In 1962, He sent the Holy Spirit to tell me He knew I appreciated certain things He had shown me, but "Had something more difficult ahead."

That was in South Dakota while I drove, looking up at the Black Hills and reciting Psalm 121, as was my habit - and suddenly I was found myself saying 'goodbye' to familiar landmarks.

As I drove up to my back door, my dear friend Susan (who had been caring for my new baby girl while I had a checkup) bounded out, exclaiming,
"Margaret! The base is on the phone telling Bernie you are being sent to ALASKA!"

With awe, I realized that was exactly the message God had just given me - that something big was about to be revealed, and was His Plan for me - - overwhelming and awesome, and since then I have been secure in knowing I am in His hands no matter what comes...

To God I give thanks for His unceasing love and grace...
