I'm NOT a former Marine, though they have my respect. My first enlisted hitch was as a tank crewman and I wound up working with Special Forces, not quite what I'd expected while going through tank crewman's training. Later I grudgingly took a reserve position, then one involving Air Force communications, and jobs as a Department of the Army civilian, then one doing essentially the same thing for the Navy, working on a joint project with active duty Marines at one point.

At least twice my life has been saved by Marines, once when their reinforcements showed up like the cavalry when they were particularly needed, and once when I was medevaced via a Marine helicopter. I owe them big time, and they have my greatest respect and admiration. But I'm NOT one of them, and the way I've come to best go about my business is a little different from the way Marines do it.

Folks are forgetting....that we are STILL in a major "religious holiday" period for the Shiites -- and significant offensive operations have been stood down until early next week. Marine forces have been ORDERED to fire in self defense only - until the conclusion of the current "holiday"...

This was ordered to NOT interfere with the transit of "pilgrims" into and out of the holy cities....

Of course, the Islamic Lunatics use these "Holy Days" to kill, maim, murder, destroy and desecrate their own "holy places" and "holy days"......using women and children.... and capturing Western care givers that came to Iraq to HELP.

Ah yes --- Islam is a fine "religion"....but in a few days, lots of their most militant practitioners are going to be taking a long dirt nap. Their body fluids and mass will be worm food soon...
