Islam - The Religion of Peace

Posted on 04/09/2004 10:58:21 AM PDT by capydick

As our headlines are filled with news of a quagmire in Iraq, The Jersey Wives and, the declassifying of Presidential Daily Briefs,it might be relevant to remind everyone that the practitioners of Islam are really a typically very religious, peace-loving group of people. Here are a few of today's news stories from around the world.

SRI LANKA:

"Despite a slow but steady improvement in ties between Islamabad and New Delhi over the past year, violence continues in India's only Muslim majority state."

ALGERIA:

The 67-year-old Bouteflika, who campaigned on a record of restoring calm to a nation wracked by more than a decade of Islamic-inspired bloodshed, won a second term Thursday with 83 percent of the vote, said Interior Minister Nourredine Zerhouni.

SPAIN:

"leave Muslim lands immediately," "Should you not do this within the space of a week, starting today, we will continue our Jihad until martyrdom," it added. Jihad is the Islamic term for a holy war.

UZBEKISTAN:

Authorities said the string of attacks, including Central Asia's first suicide bombings, that killed at least 47 people were linked to the Wahhabi sect of Islam believed to have inspired Osama bin Laden (news - web sites). This predominantly Muslim former Soviet republic has long struggled with radical Islamic groups that emerged in the early 1990s. The government's campaign against religious radicals has been internationally condemned for human rights abuses.

NIGERIA:

Obasanjo, a Christian from the south whose 1999 election victory ended 15 years of military rule, has faced stiff opposition from northern Muslims, the group that has long dominated Nigeria's military. Outbreaks of ethnic, religious and political violence have killed more than 10,000 people

SUDAN:

Thousands of people have been killed and more than 800,000 others forced to flee their homes in impoverished Darfur since rebels took up arms in February 2003. U.N. officials and human rights groups have said Arab militia groups, reportedly with government backing, are engaged in "ethnic cleansing" against Africans in Darfur. http://www.cia.gov/cia/publications/factbook/geos/su.html

Military regimes favoring Islamic-oriented governments have dominated national politics since independence from the UK in 1956. Sudan has been embroiled in a civil war for all but 10 years of this period (1972-82).

INDIA:

http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=516&ncid=731&e=10&u=/ap/20040409/ap_on_re_as/kashmir_explosion

SRINAGAR, India - A grenade explosion and gunfire at an election rally in Indian-held Kashmir (news - web sites) killed nine people Thursday and wounded at least 56, including the state's tourism and finance ministers, police said. Police said they suspected Islamic militants in the attack, and a man who said he was with the little-known rebel group Save Kashmir Movement quickly claimed responsibility.

Can one person name something good for the whole world that has come about as a result of Islam?

Happy Easter to you too.

And thanks for posting these news stories. We need to always remember that Jihad is world wide, Jihad is serious business, Jihad has nothing to do with US Policy, or even Israel, Jihad can be stopped one of two ways, by victory or by submission, the meaning of the word Islam.

The Jihadis are the new Nazis, and they must be eliminated. As of right now, I think this war will only grow much larger and more bloody. Many thought China would be the great challenge of our age, but I think it will continue to be Islam, or rather Islamic Jihad.

Nice joke, but nobody said they were that stupid to stay and fight the finest army in the world. I would run like hell myself.

Exactly. My biggest fear is that one of these Jihadists will set off a biological or nuclear device here. By then it will be too late for the next commission to determine "how did this happen"? We need to be proactive, which is not something America usually does to protect herself.

BEARS REPEATING. Excellent, my friend.

I, for one, will NOT submit to that satanic, misogynistic, primitive, sick, meteorite-worshipping death cult.

Not in the last millenium.
Perhaps before 1000, year of OUR Lord.

Thank you!

I think our beloved W made a big mistake with his religion of peace stuff from the start. I understand that he was not able to declare war on Islam, but he might have done well not to rule it out so pre-emptively.

The plight of non-Muslims in Africa is being pointedly ignored. And while this seems to be the case with most African plights, we are missing the forest for looking at the trees if we fail to see that these various movements are all part of the same thing, a declared war against non-Muslims. And hey, even some Muslims.

And the thing of it is, it has really just begun. This struggle could well go on for decades, so folks better just take a deep breath and get ready to hunker down. I think the first Gulf War really spoiled people, they now want victory in two weeks or everything is a disasterous quagmire. They also want war without bloodshed, which is impossible. Old Tojo must be rolling in his grave, figuring if only he'd lived to fight this generation, he would have won. I still don't think Hitler would have won, he did too many stupid things on his own. But the Japanese, I don't think we've got the fortitude anymore to defeat such an enemy. I only hope we can develop it PDQ!

When a Muslim says, "Islam is peace", they aren't describing Islam. They are saying the result of Islam is peace. In other words, after oppressing or killing all the heritics, what's left is peace.
