Population fell in S.F., other parts of Bay Area

While Southern California and the Central Valley added thousands of new residents in 2002-03, four Bay Area counties experienced population declines, with San Francisco losing more than any in the state, according to new census data released today.

Stymied by a slowly rebounding economy and saddled with a low birthrate, San Francisco lost 10,301 people from July 1, 2002 to July 1, 2003, by far the most -- both in sheer numbers and percentage-wise -- of the seven counties statewide that saw population losses. Alameda, San Mateo and Marin counties, as well as Santa Cruz County and two others, also experienced a drop in residents, according to the data released by the Census Bureau.

Gays and lesbians don't have many children. Why would heterosexuals want to raise a family in that environment?

Besides the obvious reason, you can add homeless freeloaders being drawn like a magnet to all the benefits, the high cost of property (which should be on their way down) and having tax money used for sex change operations down at city hall could be driving people out.

Well, that is what liberalism does to a place. All well, means less people to worry about on the road! That and, with people leaving, price should also be dropping. This would make things more affordable too. Well, okay, maybe not if the end result is the Bay Area becoming more liberal with even more taxes. But I can dream can't I?

That is why liberalism requires a national and global monopoly - so there is nowhere to run to. As to traffic - that always gets worse as the people do not leave the area but move to the suburbs just outside the boundaries.

Forever seared in my mind is the pictures of the Great Unwashed defecating in the streets of San Francisco.

Did they undercount the homeless and undocumented? I demand a recount on behalf of those who may be there!! (Or not.)

Shouldn't it be like this: When part 'A' does not fit part 'B,' do not try to fit part 'A' into part 'A.'?

I just left the place myself and I am not looking back. The anti-business, anti-development atmosphere is suffocating. The infrastructure is rotting, the roads are cramped, and government is applauded for how much progress it can kill. The exodus from the Bay Area is bound to continue until people again have the freedom to create better lives for themselves.

It would seem that most voters in SF don't want freedom to run their own lives -- they want the leftist counterfeit which is subsizizing people's vices and laziness. So what happens is that the government rewards all sorts of destructive behavior while punishing constructive behavior.

I remember reading a story about a woman walking with her children in a liberal city (it might have been SF). Some people sneared at her like she was a freak and some perfect strangers even walked up to her and said things like, "The world is over-populated. I hope you don't have any more children." It must be very frustrated for a sane person to live in SF and other leftist-dominated places. The left claims to be "tolerant" but I haven't seen it.

I remember that story. She was at a Whole Foods in the East Bay, probably Berkeley.

hmmmmm, why might that be?

Let me tell you why. The homosexual man is a marginalized man, he's an invisible man, like the black man of the 60's, he's a VICTIM! The bigoted "haves" are simply moving out of the neighborhoods when the supposed "have-nots" move in. It's Archie Bunker all over again. The crack epidemic of the 90s still rages. This is why Sodomites need to marry - they need to get children or soon there won't be enough of them.

Dreaming it is, I'm afraid. Those in power simply spend all they can tax, beg or borrow. You won't get your taxes back, even when it gets down to the last 100 pupils in Bay Area public schools.

Such unbounded and ruthless greed is by no means limited to liberals, though liberals lead the parade. It strikes almost all politicians of all parties, along with all the Trough Termites who suck up to politicians for a living, and their sisters and their cousins and their aunts.

Good observation. No, they don't. What they evidently want is an oasis where they can be weird without reproach. What they have is a rotting but comfy little island where everyone understands when they paste a KUCINICH bumper sticker on their Volvo station wagon, to cover up their HOWARD DEAN bumper sticker.

For the numerous street people, garbage cans become property. The more diligent bums have trash can routes, and get very annoyed if anyone takes an aluminum can out of THEIR trash.
