Poll shows Obama leading Ryan by 19% (Obama 52% Ryan 33%-Illinois senate race)

WASHINGTON DC -- Campaigning around Chicago Friday with Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry, candidate for U.S. Senate Barack Obama is currently leading Jack Ryan by 19%, National Review's Hotline reported this week.

Hotline reports that 52% of 806 likely voters picked Democratic candidate for U.S. Senate Obama over 33% for Republican candidate Ryan in a poll taken the last week of March.

Fourteen percent of those polled remain undecided.

“We expected the first poll done after the primary to show us at a disadvantage, since Obama went through a primary campaign that never truly vetted his extremist liberal views," Kelli Phiel, spokesperson for the Ryan campaign, said today.

"He is left of John Kerry on taxes, left of Hillary Clinton on live birth abortion and left of Governor Blagojevich on Second Amendment rights," she said. "His beliefs are out of touch with even the most liberal members of his party and completely out of step with Illinois voters.”

One problem is that Ryan's got a carpetbagger named Phiel as his communications voice, a gal who doesn't return calls or e-mails from conservatives who know what's happening on the ground. Ryan ought to dump her.

The Chicago media here is fawning over Obama. They are saying how wonderful it would be to have a black Senator for the sake of diversity.

However, it must be noted that IL is not averse to electing black politicans statewide. Carol Mostly-Fraud was elected Senator in 1992. Rollis Burris, a Chicago lawyer, was elected to Comptroller and Attorney General in the 1980's and 1900's. Also the current Secretary of State is Jesse White.

Maybe this is the year all the diversity and tolerance training will finally pay off for the Left. Doesn't seem as if anyone cares that this guy is basically a Communist. Nor do people seem to be bothered by the Kerry-Fonda connection. NBC 5 News Chicago came with a survey that showed that the Collar Counties (Du Page, Will, Lake, Kendall, McHenry) have the most educated people in the nation. It seems the more degrees you have, the more gullible you are to RAT spin.

Well, I suspect that there could be more competitors for that dubious honor than those two Great Lakes states. WV might enter the high-level competition too. Remember Thelma "Pat" Nixon's maiden name was "Ryan" too. Nixon referred to his wife's Irish heritage in his famous "Checkers" speech of 1952.

But "Ryan" is a name that will not sell in IL in 2004. Even the name "Nixon" did not quite sell there in 1960 either, thanks to a little action by the Chicago mayor.

Sander Lenin is the congresscritter, and he represents a very liberal distirct. SE Oakland County(Ferndale, Southfield, Huntington Woods) and Southern Macomb(Warren, Eastpointe, Roseville). The former is either black of Ann Arborite and the latter is union land.

In some other races, I've said that the results were troubling, but no reason to panic. Not here--this IS cause to panic. I never imagined that someone named Barak Obama could post such a lead in the heartland. Clearly, Ryan will have to go negative early. How could this happen? Are the divorce papers controversy getting THAT much publicity? Or is it something else?

Ryan would need to lead by at least 10% in order to defeat whatever Boss Daley can come up with from the cemeteries.
