Apparently, this sign is real:

According to the Marine Times:
Boudreaux is a reservist with Headquarters and Service Company, 3rd Battalion, 23rd Marines, according to Capt. Jeff Pool, a Marine Forces Reserve spokesman. The New Orleans-based infantry unit deployed to the Kut area of Iraq in May and returned home in mid-September.
Pool said the command began an investigation shortly after it received the photo via e-mail several weeks ago.
Investigating officers have spoken with Boudreaux and are working to determine whether the claims on the sign are true and what, if any, charges to bring against him, Pool said. Investigation results were not expected to be released for another week or two, Marines Forces Reserve spokesman Capt. Patrick Kerr said April 8.

Some might think this is funny as hell, but things like this are damaging our attempts to win those Hearts & Minds.

if its real as you said, then it was just stupid.

damnit Boudreaux! what n the hell was you thinkin (or not)?
To: lonewacko_dot_com
As someone who knows a thing or two about Photoshopping images, I would say this one is highly suspect.
The top edge of the sign just doesn't look right, nor does the text.

Except, as the linked article says, the Marines are conducting an investigation. The investigation is trying to determine not whether the sign is real, but whether he did the things on the sign.
So, pending a Perry Mason-style conclusion, I think the sign was real.

It's an obvious fake. I treat it exactly how I'd treat the 9/11-plane picture.

I suppose I should take some encouragement from the fact that the people on FR recognized that the contents of the sign were so offensive, so repugnant, that they had to go to some length to deny the most obvious explanation.
LCpl Boudreaux brought shame on his unit and the Marines.

The only weird thing I see on this photo is, that the background has been changed but the sun position appears to be correct.
Notice that there is a stone wall behind them. You have to look close, but between the two kids there is a stone wall with cracks in it.
This doesn't match the background. The sign looks real to me, but I can't detect where they changed the background except where they messed it up.
It is probably a very good fake.

If its fake, how could they ever find the person responsible? This man is not a public figure, if this was fake it could be determined to be an attempt to slander him.

He may have done it himself to have a souvenir.
If he did, they'll likely find that out in the investigation.

Ever consider that it (the photo) is "real", the sign is "real", and just a very, very bad practical joke?
The Iraqi kids WOULD NOT ever used that vernacular nor that style in a cardboard sign.
But the fellow Marines would.
Particularly IF the joke was being pulled on the Marine smiling and waving next to the kids!

What a dork. Nothing like inciting the enemy. Maybe when Boudreaux is booted from the Marines he can become a Shiite cleric. Those two boys will be required to regain their family's honor at the expense of the Marines. Perhaps they'll just run at the next convoy they see and blow themeselves up. What a dork.

Apparently, this sign is real:Well, it is interesting that the Marines "are working to determine whether the claims on the sign are true", not whether the photo is real. This would seem to indicate that the Marines believe the photo is indeed real.

Didn't anyone see chemical boy's post and link?
He says this is the original picture, and he changed it.

That's pretty much what I think.
The problem is, it will be used as a weapon against American troops stationed there. And that is too high a price to pay for a few laughs.

Two problems:
The word "knocked" fits in there a lot better than the word "fixed" - - see the empty space around the word "fixed"?
The letter 'S' looks identical in the words "saved" and "sister", which leads me to believe the letter was either transferred via photo-shop, or carefully copied.
To: Pikamax
Probably done on purpose, otherwise, why the sign? Thinks he will be a hero of the left, giving the world another reason to hate America! This appears to be pre-meditated, maybe one way to get out of this assignment, thinking it would give him a quick trip home.

It a fake, I used a PhotoShop program to examine the "cardboard" Sign close up and the pixels are much larger then the rest of the picture, a sure sign that it has been modified.
Also you will notice that when you zoom in on that area the colors are artificial and not well blended.

the "original" is obviously photoshopped.... look how the smear on the X in fixed is has the same greasy looking spot as the X in boudreux, and the D in fixed is totally obvious as a photoshop job.
JMO having sent many many many photoshops to fark, somethingawful, and worth1000.... not to mention the thousands of other peoples photoshop jobs I've seen at those sites.
pixelation around text happens A LOT when resolution is changed in pictures.

To: usmcobra
I looked in some of the linked threads for the one with "All Your Base Are Belong To Us!"
Seeing that one really put this in perspective.
I should take 30 minutes, make one, and host it (I stink at Photoshop, hence the long time).

I think you're right. I see the stone wall between the two boys. Looks like that perhaps was the original background...or at least it was put there using Photoshop. The photo was altered.

The wall is also behind the Lcpl's legs. I agree th background definitely looks altered, it wouldn't be surprising, then, that something else had been also.

Now drudge is posting a new link with the title:
"The real photo?"
it links to this:
http://www.imagedump.com/pics/59682.jpg "saved and rescued"
Unfortunately, I think the "killed/knocked up" photo is the real one.
Look at the letter "d" they are consistent only in the killed/knocked up photo.
Bad joke. Lcpl is in trouble.
To: Syncro
My Apologies to everyone here, I really should take some courses on writing and learn how to write again. What i meant to say was, I edited the original picture that read "Lcpl boudreaux killed my father and then he knocked up my sister" to read "Lcpl boudreaux saved my father and then he fixed up my sister"
Again apologies to everyone who misunderstood my badly wrote sentence. Feel free to flame me all you want, i probably deserve it.
