Russian Official Wants Wahhabi Preachers Imprisoned
Moscow Times ^ | 4-13-04 | Staff

Russia’s deputy prosecutor general Vladimir Kolesnikov said on Monday that people preaching Wahhabism must be made criminally responsible. «We must make responsible those who practice Wahhabism, who run the prayer houses and preach the cannibal ideology," the official said.

Kolesnikov added that at the initial stage, the spreading of Wahhabism must be punished by one year in prison and in more serious cases the law must be applied with all its strictness up to the maximum punishment implied by the criminal law. The official added that he had already contacted the representatives of the State Duma Committee for Security and his ideas would soon be forwarded to the parliament in the form of law amendments.

Wahhabism is a Muslim puritan movement founded in the 18th century by Muhammad ibn ’Abd al-Wahhab. Members call themselves al-Muwahhidun, a name derived from their emphasis on the absolute oneness of God. They reject all acts implying polytheism, including the veneration of saints, and advocate a return to the original teachings of Islam as found in the Qu’ran and the Hadith. They supported the establishment of a Muslim state based on Islamic canon law.

Adopted by the ruling Saudi family in 1744, the movement controlled all of Nejd by the end of the 18th century. It was assured of dominance on the Arabian Peninsula with the creation of the kingdom of Saudi Arabia in 1932, and in the 20th century-supported by Saudi wealth — it engaged in widespread missionary work throughout the Islamic world.

Me thinks the Russians may be ahead of us on the learning curve with these muslims. Inciting violence is illegal. I also recommend isolation cells.

A supreme court ruling exists that would allow the same treatment here in America if only the liberal elitists among us would allow it to be implemented.

Just because some subversive group calls itself a "religion" doesn't make it legitimate or legal and under the purview of being protected by the First Ammentment.

I'm with you, lock them all up. But one year's incarceration seems like small potatoes when it comes to the hatred and damage they cause.

Actually, Wahhabism is a puritanical offshoot that developed in repsonse to idolatry that has been rampant in the Saudi peninsula and was influenced by the Shiia (Iranian) brand of Islam which has been known to use icons.

The two Wahhabi countries, S. Arabia and Qattar are our staunchest allies. Sometimes the company we keep makes our "noble cause" seem like a big lie.

But, for all its less complimentary aspects, there is no cannibalism in Islam. It is unfortunate that this kind of language makes the accuser look as bad as the accused: ignorant.

Oh no Kosta, I think it was a translation issue. Not meant literally. (I still can't figure you for Orthodox when you are so literal and concrete at times.)

The Wahabi are cannibals because they devour others, in the sense of destruction of their souls, or of their lives.

Kristos Voskrese! Love to you.

Vaistinu Vaskrese! Love to you too.

The truth is not in the translation. The truth is that the article is a fraud. One must look at sources. The person who posted this, "veronica," is a "Christian Zionist" with an agenda (judging from "veronica's" own page).

The article a person called "veronica" posted as a "Moscow Times" article came from the Chechen Times. If you go to the Moscow Times article you get a different story, and comes from the Associated Press.

It truly makes one wonder why would a staunch supporter of Israel, a "Christian Zionist," post an article credited to the "Moscow Times," when in truth the article appears in the "The Chechen Times", crediting which credits the "Moscow Times," but the article looks nothing like that in the "Moscow Times."

Being spiritual may help know more of that which is not of this world, MarMema, but being literal and concrete tells you a lot about people.

Two guys who'd been listening to those wahhabi death2america sermons almost paralyzed the D.C. region for several months just over a year ago. Imagine what fifty or a hundred such sniper teams spread out over the country might do? Naturally democrats see this as another gun-control problem rather than the islam-control problem which it actually is.
