INVESTIGATION: Federal authorities on Wednesday began searching records of a crime scene supply company whose president is a state senator.

Sen. John Carrington, R-Wake, is president and CEO of Sirchie Fingerprint Laboratories Inc., which sells crime evidence collection materials to law enforcement agencies and security firms worldwide.

James W. Gocke, Sirchie's vice president, said in a statement that federal authorities "came to our company today to review our records.

Sirchie has a long history and tradition of being in full compliance with the law, and we are fully cooperating with the investigation."

Carrington did not return phone calls seeking comment. A spokeswoman for the U.S. Attorney's Office in Raleigh said she could not provide any information. WTVD in Durham reported that the FBI is investigating Sirchie.

The television station also said officials from the Customs Department and the U.S. Commerce Department were at the company for several hours Wednesday, blocking entrances. (THE ASSOCIATED PRESS, 04/14/04).

John A. Carrington's personal story is one of the most amazing, unsung stories of North Carolina.

Like "C.S.I." ?- He pioneered cheap, portable fingerprinting technology, and built a amazing monster business in law enforcement technology

I think he's Donn Carrington's uncle - blockbuster investigative writer for the John Locke foundation.

John A. - Say what you want. I like him.

The Feds, who are among his customers, BTW, might have been looking for evidence of export law violations, perhaps by a third party.

They were there for two hours, a whole lot less time than the Palm Beach prosecutors spent fishing around Rush's doctor's office.

It wasn't a fishing expedition.

I hope that this blows over. Sirchie has been a good and reliable source of quality products for me for years, provide good publications and customer service, and are good to work with by phone.....
