Iraq Policy a 'Tragedy of Errors,' Kerry Says
NY Times ^ | 4-17-04

MIAMI, April 17 — Senator John Kerry used the Democratic response to President Bush's radio address on Saturday to continue hammering the administration on its handling of the Iraq war.

"The president may not want to admit to mistakes, but his choices in Iraq have so far produced a tragedy of errors," Mr. Kerry said. "The failure of the administration to internationalize the conflict has lost us time, momentum and credibility — and made America less safe."

"Staying the course," he added, "does not mean stubbornly holding to the wrong course."

Mr. Kerry laid out an agenda starting with adding troops. He also proposes "an international mission authorized by the United Nations" to serve as the main civilian force to revive the Iraqi economy and government, and a NATO security force led by an American commander to keep peace.

"Because of the go-it-alone policy in Iraq, our troops have borne 90 percent of the risks and casualties, while our taxpayers have paid 90 percent of the costs," he said. "Our stubborn unilateral policy in Iraq has steadily drifted from tragedy to tragedy. Our troops deserve better."

Kerry said that Al-Sadr is a "legitimate voice". So I'm not surprised by his latest act of treason.

Kerry is a "tragedy of errors". He has voted on the wrong side of almost every issue. Parley

Mr. Kerry laid out an agenda starting with adding troops.

Bush just authorized 20,000 additional troops.

He also proposes "an international mission authorized by the United Nations" to serve as the main civilian force to revive the Iraqi economy and government, and a NATO security force led by an American commander to keep peace.

Bush has been working to get the UN involved...although that's difficult after they fled in fear the last time they were in Iraq.

Clearly Kerry isn't paying attention and just proving yet again his ignorance. "Go-it-alone" would imply ALONE to anyone but Kerry apparently...however, there is a multitude of nations that have both combat as well as humanitarian aid assets in Iraq already.

Kerry is a lying buffoon and in no way qualified to be president.

yeah, those Pakistani troops the UN was planning on sending would have come in handy... for the Iraqis.

Sending more US troops ain't a bad idea though.

They're also shooting each other in Kosovo! The Muslims are the ones killing the others. It's beginning to look like that all these people do for generations is to KILL.

The Turks offered to send in about 10-12,000 troops a number of months ago but we nixed the idea because the Kurds got upset. I think we need to rethink the offer - promise to establish a large U.S. airbase in the Kurdish enclave (thus solidifying their security)- in return the Turks can send a force to back up the International force down south - might come in handy if the Spanish, and other countries bail - they share a common religion and many speak the language.

"The failure of the administration to internationalize the conflict has lost us time, momentum and credibility..."

Yeah. Look how well internationalization has worked for the Balkans.

Rebuilding an entire country and forming a new government -- the first representative one a country has ever had -- is a staggering enterprise. If you didn't push the Iraqis hard and fast they would soon become overwhelmed by the magnitude of the task and hopelessly bogged down with "process".

This is exactly where we would be if Kerry's U.N. was in charge: Bogged down with "process".

What the Iraqis and the Coalition's management team has achieved in a year is stunning. Whole ministries were reconstituted in a matter of a four or five months, fer chrissake, often from next to nothing. In a year Iraq has come as far along as the Balkans have in ten. THANK GOD we didn't hand this over to the U.N.! (Even assuming the U.N. hadn't run away.)

Over the last few years I've interacted with a fair number of muslims. Some were supportive of terrorism and some were strongly against it. It's actually a very sad religion.
