Did The MoveOn Sales Collect and Turn In Local and State Sales Taxes? (Not Paying Fair Share?)
Posted on 04/17/2004 9:36:15 PM PDT by Doctor Raoul
Go to MoveOn.org and locate the Bake Sale uin your town. Call your town clerk and see if they have turned in the applicable taxes on their sales. Ditto for the state. MOveOn may be federally tax exempt (don't know), but it sure as hell isn't exempt from state and local taxes.
Now there people claim that the rich aren't paying their fare share of taxes, so here's the issue, did they pay ANY TAX on this weekend's sales?
Gorment hypocrites, blue ribbon phoneys.

San Francisco report:
Saw their little bake sale today up the hill from where I live at the feminist delicatessen that names all of it's sandwiches after famous liberal women/lesbians. They make good sandwiches, I must admit.
The MoveOn people looked bored. Not too many passersby wanting to interact with politically charged lefty kooks even here in San Francisco. There was a big 'Bowling for Columbine' poster signed by Michael Moore on the far wall nearly out of sight that I wanted to tear down but thought better of it because it's not my property and defacing posters is something that a left-wing freak would do.
I also thought that it was amusing that even though the delicatessen was eagerly pushing Howard Dean on it's customers a few months back (he was for gay marriage, you know), MoveOn had a little table outside with a couple of Kerry people registering voters. All of the MoveOn people were pinch-faced older broads with only one mincing bearded fellow to be seen amongst them. They were all talking to each other in front of a pile of unsold baked goods. Would YOU want to buy Lee Harvey Oswald's home-baked muffins? I sure wouldn't.
There were some Kerry people downtown in Union Square last week with a little folding table by the parking garage handing out buttons and getting no takers that I saw.
Oh yeah, this Kerry character is really lighting them on fire I tell you.

I volunteered at Reggie the RNC Voter Registration 18 wheeler rig today at the AZ County Fair... we regged a LOT of first time Republican voters, and handed out lots of stickers... Lots of people fired up to vote for W. The Kerry office in town is constantly empty - I drive past 5x a week and have yet to even see the lights on.

If you live in San Francisco, you should turn these clowns into the State Franchise Tax Board for non payment of sales tax.
Legitimate non profits when they have sales to raise money, have to pay the sales tax on all funds raised by the event in California.
If they don't they can lose their non profit status in California.

In most jurisdictions, certain food is exempt from sales tax.

"... If you live in San Francisco, you should turn these clowns into the State Franchise Tax Board for non payment of sales tax." Well, I have some misgivings about being an informer for the revenue collectors --- but I think the point is moot anyway since I didn't detect that MoveOn was making any profit whatsoever.
I've seen kids running lemonade stands that had more customers.

They still owe about 8% on each $ they collected.
Turn them in and have the award go to the Boy Scouts.

"... Turn them in and have the award go to the Boy Scouts." Up here, that may be sending the money back to the same place. :(

Agree, but let them have to make sure of that. I'll bet in some places, it IS taxed, espcially if that sold other things like t-shirts.

You can find out who and where at their own website.
Punch in your zip code and the bake sales that were in the vicity of your address will pop up.
I'm amazed retail folks would partake of this and not pay sales tax. That would violate their license, I'm sure.

Well, I held my nose and went to the website, just to see what's what and if they mention taxes. The following address
http://action.moveonpac.org/bakesale/faq.html
has absolutely no mention of taxes--just take the money and send it in. They recommend selling bottled water for $2 BTW, expensive water.
If you will excuse me, I have to go shower. I'm series.
