Yes, she appears to be, in a sense, dealing with the same question.

but, let's not kid ourselves about where our civilization is heading. The rot set in probably as early as roger bacon, certainly with old francis bacon; machiavelli and hobbes, et al.

And yes, you Larouche louts, i am a straussian student of a student of strauss.

Actually,

And Delsol has a different voice. Hints of Levinas, perhaps Cohen.

We won't kid ourselves, but Plato was right at the end of the Symposium.

Why is sci-fi fairly conservative in portraying the future?

Three reasons:

1) Fiction must be, at least in principle, believable. people have an ear for bunk, and generally bunk is dull;

2) In a perfect world, nothing is very interesting, really. Strife, etc., is the basis of a good story;

3) If most of previous human experience shows man to be a fool, people to be reliably greedy, and warfare to be almost an instinctual behavior, we have little right to expect that the future will look much differently.

"Onward Christian Soldiers, marching as to war.
With the cross of Jesus, going on before."

If under the cross, so be it.
If under the magen david, so be it.
If under no particular banner, so be it.

But let it be, and may the Lord hasten the day

Amen.

but, as a conservative jew with serious doubts about the west, i view the decline of christianity with great alarm.

your co-religionists are the best, not to say the only, friends my people have had for a long, long time, and our experience with atheists does not leave me optimistic.

"God is with the army with the largest battalions."

I think you may have missed some important chapters in the Bible concerning battles and wars fought by the Hebrews.
History shows that there is always an ebb and flow to civilization. I do not believe that we are doomed. I have faith in the American people, our beliefs and values. Though liberal, socialist, and communist views are more vocal, they can not long prevail with the innate good common sense which self-sufficiency and freedom instill.

Perhaps the last few years have brought low tide, but I believe that it is now turning. In fact, this could be a great reawakening of the basic moral, family, and religious values that this country was founded upon.

I suggest you tie a knot in the end of your rope ( you sound like you have reached it and given up all hope) and hang on.

Keep the faith.

The author is writing to impress you with his "Ueberintelligence".

To flowery. A painfull thing to read that says little other than a few opinions with no facts.

I guess the reader should now ponder about this marvel of literature written by such an insightfull and controversial genius? People who write like this waste your time and love themselves. It brings back flashbacks to college.
