GORELICK SCANDAL - What they were saying three weeks ago....

(What they were saying three weeks ago about Condi Rice):
"I would like to have her testimony under the penalty of perjury," said the commission's chairman, Thomas H. Kean
"But there's another whole dimension here, and that dimension is the public dimension -- and I think the American public would benefit from hearing (her) testify under oath." - Lee Hamilton
"Voluntarily coming forward to testify under oath during a public hearing without the use of a subpoena would simply set a rare, refreshing, and appropriate moral precedent for all of history to judge." - The 9/11 Families Steering Committee
"(She) ought to find 60 minutes to speak to the commission under oath.... The secretary of state, the head of the Central Intelligence Agency, the undersecretary of state.... go up there and raise their right hand and talk under oath to make America safer. We're talking about the security of our country." - John F. Kerry
"Why won't she testify under oath before the 9/11 Commission? Doesn't she owe that to us as an officer of the United States government? She's a liar. She lied twice in "The Washington Post" op-ed. I'm sorry. She's a proven liar. She should testify under oath." - Paul Begala
"(She) should testify to set a moral precedent that is aptly warranted by the murder of 3,000 people." - The 9/11 Families Steering Committee
"The American public wants answers.... She ought to testify. She ought to testify under oath. This is about getting to the bottom of some very serious questions about what went on around Sept. 11 and why we didn't do a better job of preparing ourselves." - Terry McAuliffe
"The American public deserves to see in public under oath what she knew ahead of time." - Carrie Lemack (vice president of the Families of September 11 group)
(What they are saying now about Jamie Gorelick):
"People ought to stay out of our business" - Thomas H. Kean

Well done.
But where, oh where is the public outrage? Where are the 911 relatives? Where are the condemnations of Ms Gorelick?
But don't give up. Mail, fax, phone and write your Congressmen. It hurts them, trust me.

I have a feeling that the commissioners have staffers who pull all the faxes and emails and, after checking for serious threats that might need FBI attention, simply throw them away.
And I agree. WHERE IS THE OUTRAGE?

Wow, thanks.
Ever since the Gorelick fiasco started last week, I have been thoroughly stunned at the glaring double standard. It was only three weeks ago that the Democrats and their liberal newsrooms across the country were screaming for Condi Rice to testify in public. But Gorelick? Where are the catcalls for her to testify?
It makes me sick to my stomach.

I was serious. John Gibson reads a lot of e-mails on his show at the end and I really think this would make the cut. Go for it.

That's some very good work, if I were you I would send it to The Family Steering committee, to the 9-11 commission, to Tom Delay, Bill Frist, Tom Daschel, Nancy Pelosi.
I'd send it to every news organization, the hypocrisy is astounding.

Here's another quote from the NYT:
But that did not stop Mr. Kerrey, a former Democratic senator from Nebraska, who said: "Mitch McConnell is the Republican whip of the Senate and he's accusing us of being too partisan? He can go to hell for all I'm concerned."

Mr. Kerrey: "Mitch McConnell is the Republican whip of the Senate and he's accusing us of being too partisan? He can go to hell for all I'm concerned." "People ought to stay out of our business" - Thomas H. Kean
It's a tie for first place in the "Let them eat cake" category.
They must not remember how that one worked out for its ultra-arrogant, ultra-elitest author. And she and her husband had absolute power.
Mr. Kerrey and Mr. Kean have just finished off any remnants of their own credibility and, along with that credibility, the last remnants of their already faded power.
Get off the scene, boys; you're sooo over.

Oops! Missed that second 'e' in the name. Thanks! Funny, I haven't heard much from the great Mr. Kerrey about getting Jamie Gorelick under oath to testify publicly. Not that HE would ask her any tough questions.
Was Mr. Kerrey asleep when Richard Ben-Veniste was snidely asking John Ashcroft about whether or not his family uses commercial air flights? As if that would have ANYTHING to do with the alleged "work" of the commission?

Kerry... Kerrey... all those lefties look alike! ;-)
I heard that ALL of those on the Commission were standing behind Gorelick. They're all covering for each other, IMO. Kerrey was on the Senate Intelligence Committee... he has his own conflicts if you go back a few years.
To: js1138
Links to your quotes would take even longer, but would be worth it.I did a search of "Rice" in the FR archives, ordered by 'time', and then perused them one by one for quotes from the period prior to Bush agreeing to let her testify. They're all in there, but yeah, I probably should have compiled the links as well.
Maybe I can do that tonight if I have the time. Thanks for your post.
To: Lancey Howard
The American public is not paying attention to this 9/11 commission. They just see it as politics as usual in D.C.

Links are easy. When you find an FR post, simply right click on the post number and then click "copy shortcut". Then go to your post and Ctrl-V. When you are doing a research post, it's best to assemble your post in Notepad or an HTML editor.
You can do this with any link, but it's nice to link directly to the post number when applicable.

(Flashback - March 28th)Tom Kean, former governor of New Jersey and a Republican, told "Fox News Sunday" that his commission feels unanimously that Rice should testify in public. "But we do feel unanimously as a commission that she should testify in public. We feel it's important to get her case out there," he said.
Members of the independent panel have insisted that Rice give public testimony under oath, particularly after last week's charges by former White House counter terrorism adviser Richard Clarke that Bush had not done enough to deal with the al Qaida threat before the attacks.
But as for Gorelick, the silence is deafening.
