In a remarkable shift for formal American policy toward the Arab-Israeli conflict and morass, an American president has actually recognized reality. Out loud.
George W. Bush has acknowledged the Israelis can't be expected to retreat to the vulnerable armistice lines of 1949, the old borders that invited one war after another in the years since. All the invaders had to do was cut a wasp-waisted Israel in two, then roll up each half. Not for nothing did the late Abba Eban refer to the old borders as "the Auschwitz lines."

Well-intentioned? His main intent was getting his slimy hands on a Nobel "peace" prize.
And the only reason Clinton wanted it was because it thought it was a "piece prize".

I'm not sure why Greenburg is surprised by the President's support of Israel. President Bush has stated on more than one occasion that Israel has no better friend than the U.S. Moreover, he does govern by polls or focus groups, nor is he some Sunday morning, photo-op Christian, he lives his faith, every day. If anything, life in the White House may have re-enforced his deeply held convictions. Trying to draw any comparison of the hands on, in the trenches support that President Bush has for Israel to Clinton's "bull"-session talkathons is simply absurd.
Throughout history Jews have suffered immeasurably at the hands of those who fear and hate God. God chose the Jews to be His people, to be the vehicle through whom He blessed all mankind. The first evangelists or preachers, who carried forth the Gospel of Jesus Christ from Jerusaalem to all the world, were Jews. In Genesis God promised through Abraham that He would bless all the families on earth. "I will make you a great nation; I will bless you and make your name great; and you shall be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, and I will curse him who curses you; and in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed." Therefore, Christians are also God's chosen people and so, we too have sometimes suffered for His name. To be sure, being "chosen by God" does not mean a life of ease or riches, just ask anyone in Jerusalem. Those who want to attack God know they cannot begin to touch Him, so, they set their sights on the next best target, God's chosen people. Jesus said, "And you will be hated by all for My name's sake. But he who endures to the end will be saved" Matthew 10:22
