NEW YORK (CNN) - The editor of USA Today resigned Tuesday, one day after the newspaper reported that a team of its journalists had found "strong evidence" that Jack Kelley, one of its former star reporters, made up portions of stories, plagiarized and lied.

This kind of stuff sure makes you question what the news folk report. Print, radio, and t.v. news, they all lie to try to sell advertising and make money.

worthless newspaper anyway..... Yep - It's a newspaper for the sheeple, that substitutes real news with bright pictures, colors, and worthless polls.
To: Sub-Driver
I don't get it.
Jurgensen's taking the fall for one of her reporters?
If Kelley did the plagiarizing and stuff, why is Jurgensen resigning ?
Sure, she should have been more suspicious, but why is she resigning?

I'm curious to know which articles/stories Jack Kelly fabricated...

I notice that McPaper is a little less than forthcoming on precisely what the fabricated stories were.
Probably something that we'll be happy to hear was nothing more than an alarmist invention.

Perhaps she and Kelley are cashing in on the Jason Blair Phenomenon: admit you're a plagiarist and a fraud and then rake in the big bucks with book and movie contracts, while become a talk show and liberal social circle celebrity.

It actually is indicative of the decline of the 4th estate.
Since reporters ceased reporting the facts, in order to win awards and acclaim, they fabricate stories.
I blame this on the liberal media. Facts are no longer relevant. This guy probably pissed someone off.

Asked about the role of Kelley in Jurgensen's resignation, spokesman Steve Anderson said, "You're going to have to read into it what you're going to have to read into it. Unfortunately, my hands are constrained at this time as to what I can say."
Awww, that's so cute . . . he knows sign language.

You know, I was just about to post links from the latest issue of American Journalism Review, which features Karen Jurgensen on the cover with the headline "How Good is USA Today?", along with the title of another piece called "Jack Kelly and the Truth". However, for some strange reason, their website is down at this time.
To: Joe Boucher
Will someone please post an article notifying me when the press prints something truthful and acurate ?
Finding examples of plagarism and bias in the press is like shooting fish in a barrel ;-)

I believe they became suspicious when he reported that Ohio State Defeated FSU in the Rose Bowl this year. The score he reported (OSU 742, FSU 0)is what made them a bit doubtful of his veracity!

I've got a really great idea on how the print media might be able to get back their readership and then they wouldn't have to work so hard to get advertising. How about....now I know this is a really revolutionary idea.....telling the truth? You know, they could actually print the news. They could even have articles that told Who, What, When, Where and Why in the first paragraph.

March 24, 1999: NATO airstrikes began
March-June 1999:
NATO implements bombing campaign after Serbia refuses to sign peace accord; Milosevic later capitulates and withdraws Serbian security forces from Kosovo. UN peacekeeping forces establish the United Nations Mission in Kosovo (UNMIK) to ensure security.
Kelley's front-page piece debuted on July 14, 1999. Some critics feel that it was part of a smear campaign designed to legitimize the bombing campaign.

This weekend's USA today...
they had an above the fold headline that recruitment goals for all the military services were falling short...
this, just after I read through the statistics on the fact that we are turning away at least 25-30% of the folks ABOVE our recruitment goals each month for most of the past year... all four branches plus the state guard, coast guard etc...
I knew something was really loused up in somebody's agenda.
It was clearly a propaganda piece, much like some we have seen here, where folks are trying to raise the "spectre" of a return to the "vietnam era" draft... folks posing as conservatives.. who actually have as their goal, the OUSTING of president bush in the upcoming election.
I mean after all, if the USA today says we need more soldiers and can't get anybody to sign up, the draft board is going to have to get all geared up to take little johnnie and suzie off to war.
Of course, in a lot of cases.. little Johnny and Suzie are ticked that they cannot get in to begin with.
The USA today "shortage" story, was propaganda, just a ploy to get the lefties' base energized... plus try to pull some of the soccer mommie softmiddlers of the so-called conservative movement back to the left where they belong.
Good riddance to bad garbage.
That being the USA and it's propagandist agenda pushers.

LOS ANGELES (CBS.MW) -- Two top executives at Walt Disney Co.'s (DIS) ABC network have left their posts, according to various news accounts. Lloyd Braun, chairman of ABC's entertainment division, and Susan Lyne, president of the division, have left in a shakeup at the troubled network. Disney plans a restructuring of several of its broadcast divisions, elevating cable-entertainment head Anne Sweeney and ESPN chief George Bodenheimer to oversee its media networks, according to the Wall Street Journal. Disney shares were off 16 cents to $24.80 Tuesday.
