I do not know where this mpeg originated, but it shows a scary level of competence in equipment & personnel.
Here's the email note on the forwarded mail I received.
This is awesome.
This is unbelievable.
Turn on your speakers and watch this Apache stop
Iraqis from placing a bomb along the roadside to kill American
troops.....the Iraqis can not hear nor see the apache because it is dark
and they are 2 miles away...they are using infrared.

My guess is that they are a lot closer than 2 miles, counting time from noise to hit, but then I'm not an expert.

This is video that was circulated a while back. The originating story with it was from ABC news and they took the slant that the Apache was engaging civilians.
Obviously the one who bought the farm by the tractor was unsheathing some type of launcher to defend himself with.
There was another mpeg circulating that had more video to it that showed for sure they were militants before the apache targeted them. I haven't seen it for sometime, but someone at FR knows where it is.
Have a nice day, and thanks for the morning boost.

It looks like they are planting potatoes instead of mines.
Do they use tractors to plant mines?
To: Steel Eye
Yea, I'm sure alot of Iraqi's are out planting potatoes at night along roadsides.
To: Monty22

Whoa! You aren't kidding...
The above picture shows a spent round from the Apache's 30 mm cannon. (A 9mm shell in front for size comparison.)
If that is what they were using...YIKES!!!

I remember it on TV a couple of weeks ago with the storyline about "fairness" as we (the United States) hold the technological advantage. It being as "the other side doesn't have a chance".
Which reminds me of an old Saturday Night Live skit with Rummy.

They are not planting anything. It is some sort of tillage equipment. You can see where soil has been worked. And working at night is not unusual... for farmers or militants.
To: azhenfud
I believe the Apache has a 25mm gun, not a 50 cal. I think its 25mm, might even be 30mm.

You should always try to get as close to the original source material before commenting. Otherwise you get sandbagged by editing done by others. Here is a previous
Free Republic Apache Video thread, read message number 30. Then you can see what the 'short' version of the video looks like compared to the entire 'long' ABC version of the video. You should note that depending on the ideological source, the short version is used to play up the 'harmless' farmers out for some late night tilling and smokes.
They were doing neither.

No. I haven't seen the whole video. If there is a longer clip that shows what they were up to, and explains why the tractor was running, fine.... I'll take your word for it. All I was saying is that the caption. "placing a bomb along the roadside," doesn't fit the clip.
From looking at that clip, the tractor's exhaust is hot. So is the casing around the rear axel. It has obviously been running. Nor can I see a road anywhere. All I see is some fellows messing around with a tractor. It does look like the guy near the tractor has some type of weapon.
And, again, it is not that unusual to run a tractor at night. Particularly one with no cab, no air-conditioning and in an area where temps are regularly over 100 degrees. With the fan blowing the heat off the engine, toward the rear, it's almost unbearable to operate one in the daytime.
