Report: UN envoy to Iraq calls Israeli policy 'biggest poison' [Israel is "poison" in ME]
Haaretz ^ | April 23, 2004

United Nations special envoy for Iraq, Lakhdar Brahimi, claims there is a clear tie between the escalation of the situation in Iraq and Israeli policy, which he called "the biggest poison in the region," Israel Radio quoted him as saying Friday.

The spokesman for UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan, Fred Eckhard, said it was not acceptable for a senior UN official to make such comments about a member nation and said the remarks do not reflect Annan's opinions, Israel Radio reported.

"The biggest poison in the region is the policy of Israeli power and the suffering of the Palestinians," Brahimi was quoted as telling a French radio station. He reportedly said many people both in the Mideast and outside it agree with the statement.

Brahimi was also quoted as blaming Washington for supporting Israeli policy.

Israel's deputy ambassador to the UN, Arye Mekel, said Jerusalem was considering how to respond to the comments, Israel Radio reported Friday.

The US should kick this guy out of there.

Bla bla bla. The UN supports this. They are an anti-Semitic organization and a Pro-terrorist organization.

telling a French radio station

These guys think no one is listening. We are listening and we know how they really feel. Just because it is in French doesn't mean we won't know about it.

The only "poison" in the region is a bunch of a$$-backward mullahs and their savage, stuck-in-the-6th-century followers .

The UN is a total perversion of what it was intended to be. The UN has become an embarrassment. The third world leftist rot has taken it almost completely.

' Biden called for an "international board of directors" to back U.N. envoy Lakhdar Brahimi's proposal for an interim Iraqi government.' --McCain calls for fresh troops for Iraq

Apparently Brahimi is the current favorite for U.N. representative to Iraq. Notions of a free and sovereign Israel has been an anathema to fascists for the last 100 years. This doesn't surprise me, but it's just discouraging.

Maybe so, however when it comes to the UN, one never, ever hears about the suicide bombers, dead children, lost property, or even lack of political expediency.

Israel is the monster to them, and as long as Israel exists peace will never come to the Middle East.

Wait a minute, perhaps I am confusing the UN intentions with the intentions of the Arab terrorists in the region...

You said: "AS long as Israel exists peace will never come to the Middle East."

Yeah but, yeah but, yeah but, they had been having wars for centuries before that anyway.

The only thing Arabs hate more than Israel (and the US, of course) is each other.

..."The biggest poison in the region is the policy of Israeli power and the suffering of the Palestinians," ...

The biggest posion in the region is the policy of Arab governments to "push Israel into the sea" and their blatant use of the "Palestinians" as fodder to implement their policy.

Very well said indeed. Now let's try to make the UN get just that message.

Of course. Israel is fomenting violence all over the Middle East and is a sh*tty little nation. That sums up the UN's decades old official opinion of the Jewish State.

Good one.One of my favorite things to see is a map of the middle east ,highlighting that "BIG bad" state of Israel.Shame on the arabs for not being honest, self examining and rational. They remind me of 4year olds in a tantrum.

Yeah, they DO bear an uncanny resemblence to little brats, now that you mention it.

The islamofacists remind me so much of leftists (and small children): If I can't be given what you have worked for, then I will distroy it so neither of us can have it.

Parents of small kids know this fact: little ones are savages - they have to be taught how to behave in civilized society; the shame is that nobody ever taught the Islamists.

This is an interesting statement from the UN envoy that we are depending upon to oversee the transfer of power after the Iraqis gain sovereignty. After all the BS, is this the best we can do in giving the Iraqis their freedom and democracy?

I'm very familiar with Lakhdar Brahimi. He's an Arab and he said nothing when Saddam gassed the Kurds.
The Kurds dont want him as the envoy. They know this fool once supported Saddam.

How do Iraqis view Brahimi? Kurds express disdain for Brahimi. "All we need is another Arab nationalist," one Kurdish human-rights worker said. "Throughout the Oil-for-Food program, the U.N. seemed more concerned with giving Palestinians jobs than giving Iraqis medicine," a physician in the Kurdish city of Sulaymaniyah said.

"As undersecretary of the Arab League between 1984 and 1991, Brahimi stood by as Saddam Hussein conducted an "Arabization" campaign to drive Iraqi Kurds from Kirkuk and surrounding villages. Brahimi did nothing as the Iraqi government dropped chemical weapons on Halabja, killing 5,000 civilians.
