U.S. officials have offered a $10 million reward for al-Zarqawi's capture, saying he is a close associate of al-Qaida chief Osama bin Laden and is trying to build a network of foreign militants in neighboring Iraq to work on al-Qaida's behalf. His whereabouts are unknown.

This wasn't a report. It was a video statement made by Azmi al-Jayousi, himself.

Again I'm not getting my hopes up. I'll give the administration a couple of days. If they don't trumpet this as proof then I'll continue to have my doubts.

I think the poster is confusing al-Zarqawi with al-Zawahiri.

From the Daily Telegraph article linked to below: Iraqi police ‘trained al-Qaeda‘

04feb03

IRAQI secret police trained al-Qaeda operatives in poison gas use, according to The New Yorker magazine.

The magazine also claims a radical Muslim group linked to al-Qaeda is operating in northern Iraq.

Citing senior US administration officials, reporter Jeffrey Goldberg reports that Iraqi Abu Abdullah al-Iraqi was sent by al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden to ask Iraq for assistance in poison gas use.

"Al-Iraqi‘s mission was successful, and an unknown number of trainers from an Iraqi secret-police organisation called Unit 999 were dispatched to camps in Afghanistan to instruct al-Qaeda terrorists," he says.

The article does not say when the training was carried out.

Goldberg also claims that the CIA is taking seriously reports that another Iraqi, known as Abu Wa‘el, "is the liaison of (Iraqi leader) Saddam‘s intelligence service to a radical Muslim group called Ansar al-Islam, which controls a small enclave in northern Iraq".

Goldberg says he was told that the area was to be used as an alternative to Afghanistan as a base of operations.

Quoting US and Kurdish officials, he says the enclave is used by an al-Qaeda subgroup known as Jund al-Shams, run by Mussa‘ab al-Zarquawi, "believed by European intelligence agencies to be al-Qaeda‘s main specialist in chemical and biological terrorism".

"I have pledged loyalty to Abu-Musab to fully be obedient and listen to him without discussion," al-Jayousi said in the Jordanian television segment. He said he first met al-Zarqawi in Afghanistan, where al-Jayousi said he studied explosives, "before Afghanistan fell." He said he later met al-Zarqawi in Iraq, but was not specific about when.

ABC report

Who needs facts? We've got a quick statement from TV misunderstood by the original poster but you run with it, okay? Hey maybe this guy knows where 30,000 munitions and 25,000 liters of anthrax are inside of Iraq. Should we pay him $300,000 a month for his 'information' too?

ABC News presented the video containing the terrorists statement, but has not made this connection or commented on it.

NPR this morning refused to even mention the chemical component of the planned attack. The libs are trying desperately to keep this story from getting legs.

The libs will fall back on their oldest crutch, ethnocentrism. They are only Arabs, so they are not worth as much as us. So a few of the wogs die. So what? That does not mean that I should have to put my croissant and beaujolais down and do something about it.

the poster/Beckwith, switched al-Zarqawi and al-Zawahiri's names. Seems odd, how would that happen?

accidental or intentional???????

inquiring minds want to know!

Billbears - it's you who have your facts mixed up.

From the link in #3:

In a confession aired on Jordanian state TV, al-Jayousi, the head of the Jordanian cell of al Qaeda, admitted he was schooled in explosives and poisons in Afghanistan, then plotted in Iraq with Jordanian militant Abu-Musab al-Zarqawi, a close associate of Osama bin Laden.

But you've been chief naysayer about links between Iraq and AQ and WMD since day one. Must kill you to be so wrong.

I love the smell of vindication in the morning.

I can see you are new here.

You should be aware that the Jordanian terrorist admits training with a close associate of OBL. Training in WMD.
In Iraq.

Don't let those little facts escape your notice.

What do you not understand about this statement?

He said he later met al-Zarqawi in Iraq, but was not specific about when.

I've don't deny Al Qaeda is in Iraq now. Never have. But that's alright. Keep it up. Enough citizens of the respective states believe there is a connection, even though one hasn't been officially made.

BTW, that's not vindication you smell, it's what you're trying to shovel as factual evidence

Your Clintonian denials are duly noted.

That an al Qaeda member trained in Iraq in WMD has not escaped notice. Keep discounting is.

The links between Iraq and AQ pre 9/11 have been provided for you MANY times. The press wrote over 100 articles about the growing relationship between Saddam and bin Laden in the 90's.

Your denials are silly. And so are you.

"[How do you get through to libs and Euroweinies that they -- Islamist fanatics -- are out to kill as many people as possible?]"

Sadly, there might be only one way: direct demonstration. I hope they see the light before that happens, though.

We have Freepers who will parse this statement above until it bleeds. The smell of vindication is in the air and both the Eurotrwits and the naysayers on FR will be shown to be the appeasers and denial twits they are.
