Officer Isaac Espinoza was the first police officer gunned down in the line of duty in San Francisco in nearly a decade, and police want his accused killer to face the death penalty (search) for the crime.
But the city's new District Attorney Kamala Harris search) has said no to the death penalty in this case.
"Based on a long and extensive thought and analysis of the death penalty in the state and the city, based on all of those factors that decision has been made," Harris said.
Harris ran for office on an anti-death penalty platform, but police say this is clearly a capital case regardless of her personal beliefs.

The fact that this is even being debated reinforces my choice of moving far far away from California.

I now see the death penalty as a funding device for the trial lawyers, which is then sent to the liberals.
Let the guy rot in jail. Being a cop killer, I think he'll have a great time.

The
vast majority of Californian's would say "kill him!!!"
But I guess this excuse to leave is as good as any.

In the meantime, the 16-year old punk who killed a CHP in cold blood to "impress his homies" will be allowed to live a long and full life in the prisons in California where cable TV is the norm.
If they won't kill the little SOB, they should at least set up prisons like in Arizona -- balogna sandwiches and no TV for anyone.

Shoot, I spent the first 32 years of my life there and loved it all, but, I have cousins who work in Law Enforcement (read guards, they call themselves Corrections Officers because they can't spell "guard" Re: G. Gordon Liddy) and the spleen they vent about the care-taking they have to do with pukey celeb convicts like Robert Downey and Robert Blake and their magazine interviews and NY Times pieces makes them reconsider their large paychecks.

Heck, San Diego County jail. They called those "sammitches" Duffy burgers when I lived there.

SF needs a case of "Blue Flu".
( Did I say that out-loud? In general, I don't support activist public servants going on strike or semi strike.)
