Rush was RUDE today!!!!!!
Rush Limbaugh | 4/29/04 | myself

Posted on 04/29/2004 11:58:44 AM PDT by pollywog

I am SO ANGRY at Rush Limbaugh right now!! In his last segment he really bashed and basically made fun of people who have Autism or Asperger's Syndrome. He apparently has not done " his homework" on this one.He read from a article, but I didn't hear who had written it. My granddaughter and husband both suffer from Aspergers. It has been a very difficult journey for our daughter and son in law. Rush will get LOTS of angry emails concerning this!!!

Everything's a syndrome today! What did people do before all these experts were around to invent the malady of the month?

I want to know how the human race has lasted so long.

We had our first child in Dec. The list of "rules" while you are pregnant is a 1000 pages long ,and the "how to care for" list is longer! How did humans make it this long without all these rules, meds, experts, etc...

Sounds just like my daughter. She is mildly autistic. She manages, though.

I guess every freakin social malfunction is now a syndrome. Whatever sympathy I had for such people has long since been expended. So go crazy somewhere else, we're all stocked up here.

I understand your point and agree with the massive overdiagnosis of ADHD. Some here (and everywhere) will ridicule any parent that medicates their kid for ADHD.

I see no problem with saving a child's life. If a kid has allergic symptoms and Benadryl will help, by all means, give the kid some benadryl, right?

It was the tone of voice that he read the article, that came across to me as derogatory!! His very last comment was that they were going to talk to a caller who wanted to explain" Aspergers". I am sure he will talk about it tomorrow.....after his email box overflows!

""I've stopped listening to Rush. I can't imagine a group he hasn't ridiculed at some point."
Sounds like FreeRepublic, doesn't it.

Well, no. There is a small group here that tends to make fun of people with illnesses or handicaps. Some are in this thread. They're best ignored, I say.

Rush is another matter. I can listen to him or I can not listen to him. These days, I do not listen. I'm weary of the man and his false sense of self-importance. He just ain't that bright, overall.

He reminds me of all the blowhards I've ever met. They talk about what they do not understand as if they are experts.

The mere fact that he appears to be conservative is not enough for me. I do something else while he's on the air.

The point isn't that people should never joke about things or never say that something's "retarded".

It's the assumption that because there are overstated and false diagnoses of certain maladies (like ADD) that there aren't people who genuinely have a problem.

It's that attitude, that everyone diagnosed with such an ailment is faking it or just needs more discipline, that's far more offensive than some joke.

It's very important to denounce those who make bad diagnoses or put every excitable kid on Ritalin. But it's also important to recognize that, in spite of the charlatans, some people genuinely have disorders that greatly affect their lives and they're not faking it.

Actually, I didn't write that. That is taken from anothers post, who got it from a web site describing the symptoms. I added "Sounds like computer geeks."

To be honest, it is an absolute perfect description of my brother in law. He is even worse though. He doesn't have any disease. He is a lazy bastard who is 33, lives with mom, hasnt had a job in ten years, and thinks he is a freaking genius whose mental powers are to be held in awe.

No BIL, your a dumbass loser!

Good luck, it's damn difficult to "parent away" a true sickness, as some claim you can do.

Right on. I love Rush and am devotely conservative----but if he ridiculed adults with Asbergers, he could not be more wrong. The condition is real and the situation quite sad for people trying to function as best as possible.

I am a professor and my fiancee is a Learning Disabilities specialist at another state university plus has coached adults with asbergers on how to function in their jobs, etc. There is an epidemic of students with asbergers coming down the pike and it is just now hitting college age. Don't believe me? start asking elementary teachers about asberger's incidence in their classes now vs. 10-15 years ago. It is VERY real. These kids, young adults absolutely cannot function socially and it tears them up. State universities are required by law to provide support for this student population and it is really stapping budgets as rthe incidence rises dramatically.

Rush needs to get educated on this one.

as a toxicologist working on fetal chemical exposures I do have hypothesesas to the incidence rise in these neuro alterations.

Amen to that. I stopped listening to Rush about four years ago because his ego got do large that it drowned out anything he was saying. Plus, he takes about thirty-five minutes to say/explain something that could have been fully covered in about seven minutes. Often, his show just seems like an attempt to fill space.

What do you like to listen to?

. Saying the name of the syndrome over and over to make it sound like "a**-burger"

That was IT!! He kept mocking Aspergers ...as I said , it was the tone in which he read the article that set me off!!!!
