Or the tide might reach its high water mark at the borders of the former Soviet republics. I don't think the people there are willing to be subjected to another repressive ideology.

Won't happen. By the time they understand the problem there will not be enough of them left.

Muslims converting churches to mosques? Huh. I live in a small town in PA, a hundred miles from any major city...and I can see a church from my window which is now a mosque. There was no Muslim community here before they purchased the old church.

It's funny, though. This little town is 99.9% white, but I've never heard anyone complain that fundamentalist Muslims are in the old church.

Well, but there are not many Muslims in there. At least not enough to clear the sidewalks when it snows...

Check your local Colleges and Community Colleges where there is a significant number of Muslim students and see if they are having public discussion sessions on the Topic "Why is the West Making War on Islam?"

The Muslims invaded Spain in the 8th century. And it took about five hundred years, to around the middle of the 13th century, for the Reconquista to drive them out.

Zapatero has just moved to undo all that. For it is a sacred duty of Muslims never to give up previously conquered land.

"Christian resistance to the Muslim conquest began in the mountains of Asturias, where Visigothic nobles took refuge and joined the native mountaineers in opposing the invaders. Their leader was Pelayo (718-737), a Visigothic lord whose victory over the Muslims at Covadonga, around 722, later was hailed as the beginning of the Reconquista and the 'salvation of Spain.'" (Ency. Brit., 15th edition)

Truly, Spain today needs a Pelayo. NOT a Zapatero.

Europeans are soft. Europeans are weak. Europeans believe in nothing, and will therefore fight for nothing.

Except for a bigger welfare state and a 30-hour work week, that is.

Their opinions will turn on a dime and then they will ask the US to get them out of a real fix.

Excellent point.

those factors merely reduce european fertility rates. think about the other side:

1) Decent - not great healthcare;
2) plentiful food;
3) Unrestricted immigration

These three factors contribute to the accelerating growth of Islam in europe at least as much as the ones you listed. with improved nutrition, reasonable health-care, and no real limits to their immigration, we have explosive demographics at work.

The Almighty put these folks in a vast, trackless desert, limited their access to drinking water, and sprinkled the area with various amusing pathogens precisely to keep their numbers small. Frogs, Krauts, Limeys, and others have been too soft hearted, pitying them and trying to help them. Big mistake; no good deed goes unpunished.

My point is: it is the Europeans' determined will to fail to reproduce that has brought about the necessity to import so many foreigners to keep their economies and social welfare programs afloat.

If they were reproducing at a reasonable rate, they wouldn't need to do this.

When people reject the gift of life from God, there is a price to pay. They just never suspect the price will be the annihilation of their entire way of life.

I agree. As easy as it is to succumb to pessimism, somehow things will work out.

That's not quite accurate. The Europeans realize that you can't fight terrorism in other people's countries, and their counter-terrorism units are quite competent and don't mess around. Furthermore, socialism is running its course. Even the European left, like Blair, Schroeder and Zapatero, know it. The question comes down to how to phase it out and dealing with the entrenched left wing interests like the unions. Schroeder and Zapatero want to lower taxes. Thankfully, the political center is shifting to the right in Europe. If only our own Democrats were like that. The thing that is amazing is that their standard of living is so high despite so many years of socialism.

.............................................

Tell that to China and her 1.3 billion people....

by the way economic growth in the standard of living depends not on total real GDP but on real per capita GDP...more productive people and more efficient government programs(taxes& welfare) = higher standard of living....adding net consumers instead of producers of goods & services will lower your standard of living, this is not 1800 with ten children needed to help bring in the crops....I guess if that's the way of life you want, to keep making tons of babies will help. Eventually one will reach the point of starvation....which I see so many ads about on television asking to feed the children...is that what God wants?

Convenient how many different religions philosphies' fit into expanding their population base....

no birth control
no abortion
multiple wives
matchmaking is favorable
convert or die

I wonder which philosopy gathers the most followers....
