Supreme Court Justice Assaulted During Jog [Souter]
Associated Press | May 1, 2004

Posted on 05/01/2004 9:38:04 AM PDT by HAL9000

Supreme Court Justice David Souter suffered minor injuries when a group of young men assaulted him as he jogged on a city street, a court spokeswoman said Saturday.

The attack occurred about 9 p.m. Friday, as Souter, a regular jogger, ran alone, court spokeswoman Kathy Arberg said.

Supreme Court police took Souter, 64, to a Washington hospital, where he was examined and released about 1 a.m. Saturday, Arberg said. She did not detail his injuries except to say they were minor.

Souter was not robbed, Arberg said.

The old saying is a conservative is a liberal who has been mugged, so maybe there's hope for Justice Souter yet.

LOL - they made Souter an offer he couldn't refuse. "Do you want to sleep with the fishes, Davey-Boy"?

Better yet, where are the Secret Service? In this era of Post 9/11, don't we have these people escorted at all times?

How's that old saying go..."a conservative is a former liberal who was mugged."

Let's hope we can sometime soon consider Souter one of the "good guys."

This could in theory be good news. You know what they say, that a liberal who gets mugged becomes a conservative. Hope its true.

Actually this is a pretty unwise habit for a US Supreme Court Justice to do. If he is indeed a regular jogger, maybe he has a fairly regular jogging routine. If he is normally alone and his habits are predictable, that's probably a bad thing especially these days.

He should be a lot more careful.

This is certainly not the first unwise decision that Souter or some other U.S. Supreme Court Justices have made. See what happens when you run around in the real world without carrying your gavel.

This is obviously the work of a group of young men from the Kerry camp, who were (coincidentally) having epileptic seizures...... all at the same time.

I mean think about it..heck, even having too many "Twinkies" can make a person commit murder!!!

I know that for some, this is difficult to believe, but President Bush somehow pushed these young and innocent boys into acting out. We should determine who they are and provide them with the help that they so desperately need....perhaps a free college education or some other tax supported benefit.

not much info at all...
"Turner wouldn't say where Souter was jogging, describe the nature of the attack or the justice's injuries."

"Metropolitan Police Dept. spokesman Sgt. Joe Gentile refused to comment. A spokeswoman for Washington Hospital Center also would not talk about the incident because of privacy rules."

This is breaking out all over, all are UPI AP or Reuters.
No indication anywhere of any security with him.
Doesn't seem too smart to me.

That was exactly my thought as well...another Kevin Spacey situation.

Odd how the press is not reporting any details about exactly what park this "assault" happened in, what Justice Souter may have been doing there besides "jogging", what time this occurred, why he was assaulted but not robbed, etc.

But even if Justice Souter was hypothetically "outed", would there really be any huge outcry or shock like there would have been 50 or even 20 years ago?

"Hate crime? What color [sexual orientation] were the perps?"

Souter's a 64 year old single, "life long bachelor" who's been rumored to have been gay since 1989...out "jogging" at 9 PM alone on a weekend in one of the most dangerous neighborhoods in America.

Sadly, no.

But, it might. Might have to recuse when the queer "marriage" mess makes it to the SC.
