Police are investigating vandalism at a Starbucks in southeast Portland after someone threw a homemade bomb into the coffee shop.
Investigators said the worst damage was to a window and the vandalism will cost about $500 to repair. They said the bomb ignited a small fire, but it was extinguished quickly and did not appear to cause any significant damage.
The new Starbucks, at 21st Avenue and Division Street, was scheduled to open Thursday morning and an Open House was planned from 2 to 5 p.m., Wednesday, for local community members. Starbucks officials have not said if that will go forward as planned.

Those be the same hippie-wannabees who frequent all the new Starbucks shop openings here in L.A. They rail against corporate greed when Starbucks consistently comes in as one of the best companies in the US to work for.

Basically, these losers want to keep their neighborhoods crappy so that they can still afford to live there without having to get a real job.

Call me hopelessly out of it, but I don't understand the appeal of Starbucks, or the fury of its
moonbat antagonists.

I don't think these types are capable of thinking that deeply.
It's just "bring it all down, man."

It's a good place to get a decent espresso. If you like that sort of thing.
No, it's not the best. But it's consistently decent. Which is more than I can say for a lot of places.

I liked the ones near where I lived in Washington state. But go into a Florida Starbucks and ask for anything other than the house coffee and they look at you with a blank stare.

Coffee has bean the grounds of many a heated and strong discussion.
To: B Knotts
Why do the angry, anti-capitalist lunatics up here in the NW always pick on Starbucks? Maybe they're upset that they can't afford to buy a cup of coffee there.

Call me hopelessly out of it, but I don't understand the appeal of Starbucks, or the fury of its moonbat antagonists. I agree. There are so many drive-up stands here that getting out of your truck to buy corporate coffee makes no sense. I'll support my local latte stands any day. Better coffee, better prices and better service. And when was the last time the Starbucks counterperson told you to just pay on the next visit when you realize your wallet is empty?
To: B Knotts
I don't understand why Starbucks always gets singled out for this kind of stuff. Heck, they employ more weirdos and hippie-looking folk than most places I've seen.

For what it's worth, the staff at my local Starbucks has said more than once "Don't worry about it" when I get out a couple singles to pay for my usual morning wakeup. And there's a new one on the northwest side with a drive-through window.
I agree that the regular brewed coffee from Starbucks is nasty -- go for the expresso drinks.

I wonder what the breaking point will be when these freaks start murdering in numbers.

Basically, these losers want to keep their neighborhoods crappy so that they can still afford to live there without having to get a real job.
Yup, they rail on and on about the "evils of Gentrification" without ever delving into what the word "gentrification" actually means: turning run-down gang and prostitute infested urban neighborhoods into NICE places to live. There are parts of the Bay Area that I wouldn't have stepped foot in fifteen years ago because they were too dangerous to visit and typically had no businesses that people wanted to visit anyway. Today many of these neighborhoods are attractive, thriving middle class communities with businesses, families, and a future. The wailing of the activists over the "destruction" of these neighborhoods and the elimination of their "unique urban character" can still be heard to this day in the remaining slummy areas.
In cities like Oakland, the city councils are beginning to treat the remaining ghettoes almost like wildlife sanctuaries that must be protected from the 'evils' of development (they choose to ignore the fact that these urban renewal projects are increasing both employment and average income in their cities, instead lamenting the fact that the local Surenos no longer have neighborhoods to terrorize and corners to deal on).

I don't get it. I thought lefties like Starbucks. It fits in perfectly with that "leftie student talking over the latest Communist theory with her Volvo-driving, tweed-wearing, bearded leftie professor." Yes, I know, I'm painting a caricature, but I've *been* to coffee shops in University districts. I'd think the lefties in Portland would take to Starbucks like ducks to water. Is Starbucks not donating to A.N.S.W.E.R./WWP or something?

I don't get it either. The Starbucks my husband stops at when he leaves Portland after a flight appears to be a haven for leftist Kucinich/Dean/Kerry fans. You'd think they'd like something yuppie like Starbucks.
(They really like our Bush/Cheney bumper sticker there!)
