Recently how certain prisoners were treated has become a major political topic. Not only those directly involved with their treatment, but their superiors all the way up the chain of command have been questioned regarding this treatment. The entire chain of command has been asked to apologize or even to resign. Absent such behavior their forced removal has been advocated by many high ranking Democrats. There is much yet to be learned on this subject. One very important question was first brought to my attention by Al Gore. Under the official treatment policy of the government Willie Horton was given a 2 day furlough in 1986 from his life sentence for murder in Massachusetts prison. He never returned there and later murdered again in Maryland in 1987. Although the policy preceded his administration then Massachusetts Governor Dukakis had actively defended it, going so far to veto a bill banning furloughs for first-degree murderers in 1976. Al Gore made this an issue in the Democratic primaries leading up to the 1988 Presidential elections and then VP Bush continued with the issue. John Kerry was Dukakis's Lt. Governor from 1982 to 1984. To be fair Willie Horton was let out after Kerry won election to the Senate, so he doesn't bear any responsibility for that specific case. Still the policy that let Horton out was the official policy while Kerry was the number two man in the Dukakis administration. But for sheer luck a similar travesty could have happened on Kerry's watch. I suspect the record is incomplete. Has Kerry ever commented on this penal policy over which he was number two in the chain of command? Has he ever apologized to its victims? If we capture Osama bin Laden would President Kerry grant him a 2 day pass?
I don't think I could stomach watching that due to the mental picture our local talk radio host conjured up this morning....Rumsfeld naked, being interrogated in the Senate by Nancy Pelosi with a cigarette hanging out of her mouth. Ewwwww.....
