Incredible. How could these people let themselves get involved in this? It is almost like a collective temporary insanity came over them and they participated in something they would never think about doing.
Abu-Ghraib is an evil place. So much evil has been done there over the decades. Some would probably be skeptical that its previous uses could have an effect on generally good people who find themselves within its walls. But I'm not so skeptical. The suggestion to turn it into a pile of rubble is not that bad of a suggestion in my opinion.

Now if somebody we know who could do magic with photo shop could put Bobbi"KKK" Byrd in the picture that would be interesting.
At least she wasn't from west Virginia

On another thread, it was said that the CLASSIFIED DOD report is what was leaked to CBS. And Hitlery is on the Armed Services committee.

It is almost like a collective temporary insanity came over them and they participated in something they would never think about doing. "Stuff" happens all over the world, all the time, especially when human beings get together in groups. Theoretically, military discipline and training should have prevented this but it didn't.
All moralizing aside, the one teaching point that everyone should be taking away from all of this is:
"Never allow a digital photo to be taken of yourself doing something that you are not willing to be seen doing by a world-wide Internet audience of hundreds of millions of people.......which happens to include your mother."

I think she was given the leash and this was posed whether to "soften" up people being interrogated or for a "souviner". But it seems to me the officers responsible for the behavior of these people should be court martialed first. It is interesting that all the opposition were interested in after 911 was trying to "understand" the people who were blowing us up as if there was some excuse for them but here we have a obviously young american and no one seems to have that view about her. Frankly I think there was a group dynamic going on with someone in charge that fostered this is a sick sadistic way and this girl in a dangerous place working with scary people fell into it. She needs to own up, pay a price, but the culprit responsible for this is higher up.

On a brighter note, I'm sure Lynndie won't have any problems starting a new career once she returns to civilian life...

Rummy was warning us today that, in essence, it's going to get worse before it gets better.
Well, I'm sure that some here will say that Rumsfeld's comments were "fishy" or "don't smell right" and suggest calling out the militia to throw him in jail with the traitorous reporters. Some might suggest that it wasn't really Rumsfeld that said these things and that perhaps, Rumsfeld doesn't really exist at all. We have a potential Manchurian Corporal, so why not a Manchurian SecDef put their by the Arabs years ago just to say such an anti-American thing.
Oh well.

Both were members of the 372nd Military Police Company, based in Cumberland, Md. Normally, I'm proud to hear news from my hometown. This I could do without.

You are correct. We can't know what it would be like to be in their shoes. One lapse and the inmates would cut their throats.

Dude, I think you've jumped the shark here. No, no, no . . . I don't think the idea stinks at all. This constant left-wing lying is undermining the war effort, just as it's intended to do. Sorry, I think they have to be rounded up and neutralized (note I didn't say 'killed').
Just as a hypothetical, would you report for duty if the CIC called out the militia? I'm ready.

That is brutal and horrific. We are not Iraqis,we are Americans.I hate the HYPOCRISY in the arab world.I hate the grandstanding in both parties and the politicization of all this by the dems..
I hate CBS for putting our troops in danger.Mostly I hate the twisted jerks who dishonored the uniform and harmed our troops in the process

Where is the torture???? Someone show me the torture. It was explicitly stated today that there are pictures and video that are much worse than has been shown publicly.
These are evidence and have been leaked and should not be shown to the public, IMO, but you may get your voyeuristic wish.
You are in no position to say there was or was not a certain kind of conduct. To be sure, it was not the policy of our armed forces to behave that way.
To: Arkinsaw
The suggestion to turn it into a pile of rubble is not that bad of a suggestion in my opinion. Every suggestion that I've seen, to turn Abu Ghraib into rubble is coming from a Congressman. There are precious few Congressmen who give a crap about our money. How many millions or hundreds of millions will we pay to replace it? They really don't care. It's not in their make-up.

This article says she may have a civilian attorney, if she wants. If I were a corrupt dem, I'd make sure she got one of the fixers. I can see how the other pictures could leak if she takes this route.
To: hole_n_one
I really think the collective insanity lies with those who are making this out to be way lots more than it is, many on FR. I have not seen one photo that even begins to compare with the horrors commited by the enemy.

I am with you. It is hard for me to belive that a young girl would deliberately go around and put a leash on a big guy. More likely, she was told to pose for the pictures.
Someone wanted the pictures, so they could show the prisoners their fate (being humiliated by a girl) if they didn't cooperate.
To: Doe Eyes
My question... what would everyone here be saying if the picture was reversed, and it was an Iraqi with an American on a leash?
Does this particular picture look like "torture"? No... But it sure as hell is not right.
