Well then you had better not read this.
I did a late-nighter two weeks ago to patch about 80 boxes for this little bugger and my counterpart in Another State chose to wait until his next-scheduled maintenance window (2 weeks off) to do it because they hadn't seen anything in the field yet. Didn't want to discommode his customers, dontcha know. I say that inconveniencing users is the very heartbeat of a SysAdmin's existence, but I'm kind of an old-timer...anyways, the boy got bit. Bigtime. Corporate-level messages flying hither and yon.
The boss doesn't know it yet, but he's picking up the tab for dinner tonight, and if I feel like an after-lobster brandy, I figger I earned it...
Surely they jest. Nope, it's Germany, where Monica Seles's attacker walks free.
The German governments information technology security agency said there were four versions of Sasser.
The first version was amateurish, spokesman Michael Dickopf said. However, the others were clearly different in the damage they caused.
Police said the German teenager was responsible for all the versions, in addition to variants of the Netsky virus.
Oh really? The same guy writes a crappy worm and spreads it, then three "great" ones? Seems if it were the same guy, he would not have spread the first one, but rather "improved" it before sending it out.
This seems a little too convenient to me.
