I'll accept the chance that you're right. I would counter with the idea that no matter who is in office, the investigation might be compromised internally anyway by a Muslim sympathizer.

I believe there is a vested interest in making the Madrid bombing not Al-Quaeda but "merely" Muslim copycats (which to me is actually scarier, but somehow for the rest of the world it isn't-how many guys like the LAX killer might just "go off' one day on Jihad?).

We'll see.

I did read about the connection to the Portland 7. Apparently he was defending Jeffery Leon Battle in a child custody case. Although it sounds like the Spanish felt that his military background and their idea that he fit the profile of a controller or trainer of sorts indicated that he may have had a very significant, perhaps leadership role.

With all these details slowly filtering out, I get the same old familiar feeling I get with a lot of these questionable characters. "Oh, by the way, he's muslim...and he's linked to the Portland 7...and he was the lawyer for one of them...and he was in the miltary...and at Ft. Lewis...and his wife is from Egypt...and he was already under investigation by the FBI for another matter...and..." Jeez, what else is going to pop up? Is the press afraid of what it will imply if they put all this info in the same place where it is easier to connect the dots? (please excuse yet one more rhetorical question)

Aa far as I know they've all been ELF and ALF firebombings up here, no Arab Terrorist ties that have been reported.

I believe that the editors don't want everything in one story.

This way they can spread it out and say that they covered the story.

You may be correct, I certainly don't know. If the leak was due to Muslim or Leftist folks, they sure screwed over Mr. Mayfield. Thanks to the leak (if not to his own shenanigans), this guy is going to be in custody for quite some time as he is now undeniably a flight risk.

"The American has the profile of an expert who could have supervised the bomb-making," a high-ranking Spanish police official said.

And this is where the fingerprints will make sense...he probably helped them plan, start to finish. I think it's miracle that the second bomb and deto's did'nt go off...he probably would'n thave been caught..AND God knows what this Liberal Bush hater had planned for November.

He already saw what happens when you bomb before an election.

If I were the DNC, I would be shredding documents with Mayfield's name on them. I bet the National election committee could tell us who the Bush hater donated to.

Liberalism, left unchecked, will condone this type of behavior in search for power. Clinton lowered their bar to allow anything to be done in pursuit of power.

I've been called for jury duty about 5 times so far. Picked to serve on 2-3.

(The first one was a murder trial but I didn't get picked. The guy got life).

I hope I don't get called/picked for Grand Jury. Not sure how that works.

I think when they get picked, you are up for months at a time.

This guy, according to his mother on FOX News was an officer and a communicator.... This guy is of high interest to the government because of his communications training/background. He held a TS Clearance and, in all likelyhood, signed a statement regarding disclosure. Now his is involved, according to his mother in helping low income familys (read, probably Islamic families)....

My guy instinct is that he has an ego which needs to feel important.... I would put money on him selling out his Country to a religion to be "important" in many ways. Former officers and current officers seems to think highly of themselves (not that the enlisted do not suffer from similar fits of grandure:)) - but communicators are generally intelligent folks.

Mayfield was combat telecommunications during his USA stint and with air defense artillary in Germany.

He took low-income IMMIGRATION cases.

The bombs were detonated by telephone.

Even the mildest association with Battle puts an X on him.

I'm guessing he's had a few clients with terrorist connections.

I can't imagine someone introducing a Muslim woman to a non-Muslim as a blind date, i.e., I think he was a secret Muslim before.

My suspicions are directed at both Mayfields.

Wonder what HER Professor Father is doing these days??

...it appears to be very damning, evidence wise...

Does anyone know how long fingerprints can last on a plastic bag? I think it will be very difficult to prove that the fingerprint was put on the bag while the detonators were in the bag. I suspect he will argue that he sent a bag to Spain. The bad guys re-used the bag to hold whatever.

Also, I think US cell phones will not work in Europe, so if the claim is that he shipped cell-phone based detonators to Europe, the prosecution is going to have a tough time.

LOL! I love it, too!

The co-juror team I got stuck with had some read deadheads. In one case, while we were trying to beat down the lone holdout, the defense attorney was pleading guilty to a lesser charge. Thank goodness. The guy was guilty and got 7 years in state prison. It turns out that the guy had multiple PRIOR burglary and/or robbery convictions.

Did I ever give the knucklehead holdout a stare when the judge told us THAT ! haha!

Another case was a shoplifter that was suing a grocer for injury while being apprehended while walking out. He claimed injury that was shown in testimony to be actually related to a previous injury. The guy was a con-man, Mr. Cotton ! The Judge threw the case out, along with Mr. Cotton. What an arse he was.

From some of the other articles posted today, it appears to be very damning, evidence wise.

Maybe, maybe not. This guy is certainly a fool for letting the jabbering Ishmaelites sucker him into sharing their bloodthirsty tribal idol-worshipping. But he is still entitled to a presumption of innocence.

Perhaps he dropped off a bag of old clothes or canned food at his mosque, which was then used by some other Mohammedan fiend to send detonators to Madrid. Or perhaps he sent picture postcards of Oregon to a friend in Spain, who then used the bag for detonators. Or maybe the friend threw the bag away, and it was used by someone else.

Certainly it is worthwhile to scrutinize this guy with a microscope, but we must keep in mind that there are dozens of plausible explanations for this fingerprint finding, only one of which is malevolent.

I wasn't clear enough in my post (#14). When the word "authorities" appeared,
what sprang to my mind was the new Socialist goverment official...
not the Spanish cops/intelligence officers doing the heavy lifting.
After that Spanish officer was killed when the cornered terrorist blew themselves up...
and then the poor fellows corpse was dug up and defiled (almost surely by terrorists or
or their fellow travelers), I'd think the Spanish cops/officers wounld do
nothing to risk Mayfield escaping.

BUT, for any new Socialist government officials...I'm not so certain of their commitment
to fighting back against the terrorists.

All cell phones in Europe use SIM cards.

T-Mobile, part of the Deutsche Telekom behemoth, offers SIM cards in the US.

As I understand, T-Mobile has penetrated the US market very effectively in the Pacific Northwest.

SIM cards figure prominently in the Madrid bombings.

Spain raises doubts over fingerprint

Spanish authorities are skeptical of a U.S. report that a print tied to the deadly Madrid bombings is a "bingo match" for a former Kansan.

Eagle news services

The newspaper El Pais reported Saturday that Spanish investigators have serious doubts about whether the fingerprint found on a plastic bag tied to March 11 explosions on commuter trains is that of former Kansan Brandon Mayfield.

The report said Spanish forensics experts found only eight points of similarity between the print and the one of Mayfield held in U.S. files because he is a former Army officer.

The FBI said it found 15 such points, El Pais said.

The Portland, Ore., lawyer and father of three has not been charged with a crime, and U.S. authorities have stressed that their investigation is at an early stage.

Spanish police have been intrigued by the possibility of a U.S. connection to the Madrid bombings ever since FBI agents informed them more than three weeks ago that a fingerprint found on a plastic bag of detonators left by the bombers appeared to match Mayfield's.

But senior Spanish law enforcement officials said their own forensics experts remain unconvinced.

"The experts here in Spain... still have doubts about the fingerprint," the senior Spanish official said.

The FBI thinks the print on the bag, which was found in a van abandoned by bombers at the suburban station where they boarded the trains, matches Mayfield's conclusively, according to a U.S. law enforcement official.

"My understanding is it's a bingo match," the U.S. law enforcement official said.

The FBI fingerprint examination was made by an analysis team that may have found Mayfield's print either in a database related to previous terror cases or in his military file, officials said. The FBI analysts also found indications that whoever left the fingerprint on the bag involved in the Madrid bombings had some connection to the Yugoslav province of Kosovo, where international Islamic extremists have been active.

Mayfield, 37, was arrested at his Oregon law office Thursday as a material witness in the bombings, which killed 191 people and wounded 2,000.

He grew up in and around Halstead, about 30 miles north of Wichita, where much of his family still lives. He attended law school in Topeka after serving in the Army.

Mayfield's military background particularly interests Spanish police because they think someone with military experience may have provided training or advice about the assembly of the remote-control backpack bombs used in the attacks.

But Spanish police say they have not turned up any sign so far that Mayfield was in Spain during the time the bombings were plotted and carried out, two senior officials said.

Nor have Spanish police found evidence that Mayfield had meetings, phone conversations or Internet communications with any of the two dozen bombing suspects, a predominantly Moroccan group of Islamic extremists with limited ties to Americans or the United States.

In a report prepared more than three weeks ago by Spanish police about the lead involving Mayfield, he was described as a U.S. military veteran who was already under investigation by U.S. authorities for alleged ties to Islamic terrorism.

It is not known why Mayfield was being investigated, though the mosque where he worshipped was also attended by defendants in another terrorism case. Known as the "Portland Seven," the six men and one woman have pleaded guilty to federal charges of conspiring to wage war against the United States.

One of the men was a client of Mayfield in a child custody case.

I've noticed pro-Palestinian and anti-Jewish writings, links, etc. on some of the few animal right's websites I've looked at.

I think we'll find that some of our enviro-terrorists are friends with some of the Islamic terrorists.

Might be interesting to find out if Mayfield or Nelson have had many dealings with animal rights groups or other enviro types.

BTW, I wonder how the Spaniards extract information. It was said on FNC today that 18 suspects have been arrested, and they are surely gaining information from those interrogations. I wonder if THEY have pictures of their 'interrogations'.

Mayfield met Mona on a blind date. I'm trying to imagine someone introducing a Muslim to a Christian, particularly in an area which is loaded with Muslims.

It's one of those: "What's wrong with this picture?" (I think he was a Muslim activist BEFORE he married her).

BOTH Mayfield and sniper John entered the army at Ft. Lewis in 1985.

They both married Muslim women in 1988. They both converted to the Muslim religion.

They both left the military in 1994.

Both are connected to IMMIGRATION though in different capacities (The sniper ran his own agency :-).

They both kept low profiles.

They're both anti-establishment and pro-Muslim.
