Doesn't the "top donors" list for the Democrat party look awfully similar? Isn't this just a function of how many people are at a company and how much disposable income they have?

Well yes, but the Dems don't want fence riders, then the election is still in play; they want ALL the protection money paid solely to them.

Go to:

http://www.opensecrets.org/pubs/toporgs/topdonors.asp

And you will find that since 1989, 12 of the top 20 "donors" are labor unions, and they all - every one of them - gave over 90% of their donations (many 99%) to DemocRATs.

Frankly, I'm getting damned sick and tired of people talking about "big corporations" giving to Republicans. It's the unions that are giving the big bucks, out of the pockets of members who vote about 40% for Republicans.

This is just plain weird. A UK boycott of these companies is supposed to influence political donations in the US? Notice that they give alternatives for the UK, but hardly mention any alternative products for the US, as they don't know the US market at all.

"Considering that oil companies profits made from the wallets of the little people are soaring into the stratosphere, I'm surprised that they gave so little."

Consider this: the federal government already earns about $.30/gallon in taxes. The oil companies earn, perhaps, one tenth of that.

Why should they give a penny more?

WA state earn $.28/gallon, due to a $.05 increase passed by the legislature in 2003. This makes WA state one of the highest in the West. So, in WA state & the feds collect $.58 in taxes. Yes, oil companies should be donating more. But never fear, they'll pass their donations onto the consumer.

Ha! This'll just kill my left-of-Kerry parents, who have AT&T cell-phones, ship UPS a lot, and use a lot of these products.
