My guess is that most of the recipients of the information from Lawson were already following the progress of the events through their 'channels'. For some, Lawson's connection with Hackworth may have sprung the news too early (HRC's October surprise).
Motives for their silence could range from an effort to make it look like a Bush Administration cover-up to letting the justice process take place without interference.
Whatever the reason, their excuses are as valid as the perps excuses for their behavior.

Hey, didn't Hillary go over there this year? Or am I thinking of someone else?

I read, they thought it was a prank because the pentagon didn't come running to tell them about it.

They use the hoods because Arabs spit at our soldiers...
it's that camel mentality. I'm sure if someone spit at you, you'd want to slug'em. It's a way of keeping US from being provoked to violence.

A case of "Just damn". Double that.
I have the names of 8 of them who received and ignored the letters: Hillary, Ted Kennedy, Mark Dayton; Bill Nelson; Joe Liebermann; Robert Byrd, J. Raockefeller; John Warner. Now, how can we find the other 11?

Only confirms my belief that half these idiots don't need to be in the Congress.

"A new Annenberg public-opinion poll, completed Sunday and out yesterday, suggests that a majority of Americans think the Pentagon "covered up" the abuses,"
Obviously these Americans are as clueless as the members of Congress who didn't bother to listen to the Pentagon press release, or read the letters sent to them about the abuses. How pathetic that elected officials and most Americans need pictures in order to comprehend information. Doesn't say much for our school programs does it?

No, Hillary was over there last Thanksgiving...

What I heard was that every democrat on the Armed Services Committee got the letter - the uncle thought dems would be more "responsive."
The only Republican that I know of to get it was John Warner.

The most arrogant comment, imo, was Robert Byrd's reply...doesn't read anything less than 500 words. Real reason, imo, is that it wasn't printed in LARGE letters. This bloviating egotist is long overdue for a rocking chair in a nursing home....which will probably be named for him like everything else in W.Va. is.

I heard that Governor Warner of Virginia was the only governor to whom the information was sent. Now, we need 10 more.

It wasn't their problem. Do you really expect anyone in Congress to take a leadership role? No!!! Better to stand back and let Bush do the dirty work and take all the hits. LEADERSHIP!!!!

OK, all this scandal has done was to silence ALL other issues: Kerry's Medals & Nam tour, Oil for food, and all the rest have been sidelined, and most will probably not be gotten back into the lime light.
My how convenient!

I'd start separating the 17 names out a little bit and find out which ones sit on the Armed Services Committee. Those people not only have the access during their meetings to "ask questions" but also the duty to read ALL CENTCOM REPORTS "AND" ask questions.
