FBI Launches Counterterrorism Probe After East Texas Arrest (TROP™ plot to rob and kill rich Jews)
CBS-11 TV [Dallas/Fort Worth] ^ | May 10, 2004 | Robert Riggs and Todd Bensman

Tyler, TX – A virtually unnoticed federal arrest here this Spring of a well-educated Pakistani man caught trying to buy illegal silencers, firearms and C-4 explosives has set off a nationwide FBI counterterrorism investigation, CBS-11 has learned.

The investigation centers on whether Osama Haroon Satti, 35, came to Tyler on behalf of a terrorist cell hoping to arm for a plot to rob and murder wealthy Jews and other non-Muslims on the West Coast, sources familiar with the FBI investigation tell CBS-11. Satti is currently in federal custody on charges of buying an illegal silencer and handgun.

Federal prosecutors connected to the case have declined to comment.

Satti has remained tight-lipped so far with investigators who, sources tell CBS-11, are urgently seeking answers about his stated plans to buy explosives along with up to 20 more silencers capable of firing 100 bullets each before wearing out.

Satti, who currently lives in the Washington, D.C. suburb of Falls Church, Va., did not respond to a CBS-11 request for comment as he was being led away in chains after a recent court appearance in Tyler.

His public defender, Greg Waldron, declined interview requests, in deference to the continuing FBI investigation. He noted only that his client has pleaded not guilty.

The FBI's investigation searching for any possible ties between Satti and foreign terror groups has expanded nationwide since a federal sting ensnared him March 8 inside a Tyler Hampton Inn Hotel room for buying an illegal handgun and silencer, CBS-11 News has learned.

Not that I'd advocate violence...but I think a revision of some dialogue from the
original "The Italian Job" is due.

"We know where that big mosque in Culver City is."

(IIRC, in the original "The Italian Job", the Brits overcame Mafia objections
to their operation by politiely reminding them that they knew where all the
Italians in England were located.)

Maybe we need to find a reason to doport or extradite him to Israel or India. I am sure he would tell either everything we wanted to know.

Hmmm, did he attend the Islamic center there sponsored by the Saudi University/Embassy ?

“Satti also indicated he was purchasing these firearms and silencers for at least two customers…” the affidavit states. “Next, Satti requested to purchase C-4 plastic explosive.)”

San Jose, CA is the same area as the terrorist group Jamaat al Fuqra's Balladullah compound/town, isn't it?

1997 : (SATTI EARNS AN MBA DEGREE, THEN MOVES TO SAN JOSE, CA AND THEN RETURNED TO PAKISTAN AT SOME POINT) and an MBA from Rochester Institute of Technology in 1997, according to the registrar’s office. After earning his MBA in 1997, Satti apparently moved to San Jose, Ca. for work in the computer industry and then may have returned at some point to Pakistan.-- "FBI Launches Counterterrorism Probe After East Texas Arrest," By Robert Riggs, Chief Investigative Reporter, and By Todd Bensman, Investigative Producer, CBS-11 TV [Dallas/Fort Worth] , May 10, 2004 9:10 pm US/Central

There is a large contingent of Pakistani expats in this country who need to be seriously scrutinized. Those who are suspected of terrorist planning and activities need to be either arrested or deported, preferable the former. Start on the college campuses and also focus on high tech companies.

Last line of the article - quoting Osama Satti:

“Let the country be clean from extreme religious fanatics who have brought Pakistan and religion a bad name,” he wrote. “Maybe the time has come to keep all those so-called mullahs…in one line and shoot the buggers…”

Maybe he's our our side? ;-)

You know what's interesting about this?

Here we have Osama Satti, who does as someone just posted earlier sound like "one of us" in at least that comment. The few postings I looked at on the Paki site are also apparently tame, though he did post one thing relating to a meeting of some sort in Newark, NJ which was to occur just after 911- no way to tell if it is suspicious or not at a glance. It may or may not be what it appears and I haven't had much time to look at it yet.

But Satti's been hanging around Tyler Texas... Just how big is Tyler, Texas?

I ask because there's another interesting case out of Tyler, Texas...

It's the william Krar case- the militia/KKK type guy with the pipe bombs and cyanide who was once nailed for impersonating a police officer and who was recently caught because he mailed the bogus UN and DIA identification to an address in the northeast and evidently screwed up and mailed it to the wrong addy- it went to Staten Island instead of to Edward Feltus in New Jersey.

Both have made comments to the order that they are against terrorism.

From "Sentencing will not solve mystery of weapons horde," By JACK DOUGLAS JR., Fort Worth (Texas) Star-Telegram :

Investigators also questioned Jennifer Gionet, manager of a rental storage facility in Hooksett, N.H., where Krar and Bruey had rented two lockers. Gionet, according to an affidavit, said that on the day of the 9-11 attacks Krar told her that "he had known the attacks ... were going to happen" and that "he knew of anti-terrorist groups." The affidavit quoted Gionet as saying that she was afraid of Krar, accusing him of being "wicked anti-American," and that he expressed a hatred for the government and "all of the cops."

Hopefully this means they don't have any reliable source of arms and explosives.
