There were 39 combat related killings in Iraq during the month of January..... in the fair city of Detroit (Michigan) there were 35 murders in the month of January. That's one American city folks, about as deadly as the entire war torn country of Iraq!

Worst president in history?

The following appeared in the Durham, NC local paper as a letter to the editor.

Liberals claim President Bush shouldn't have started this war. They complain about his prosecution of it. One liberal recently claimed Bush was the worst president in U.S. history. Let's clear up one point: We didn't start the war on terror. Try to remember, it was started by terrorists BEFORE 9/11.

Let's look at the "worst" president and mismanagement claims.

FDR led us into World War II. Germany never attacked us: Japan did.

From 1941-1945, 450,000 lives were lost, an average of 112,500 per year.

Truman finished that war and started one in Korea, North Korea never attacked us. >From 1950-1953, 55,000 lives were lost, an average of 18,333 per year.

John F. Kennedy started the Vietnam conflict in 1962. Vietnam never attacked us. I think history might show Eisenhower committed the troops and Kennedy was honoring that commitment.

Johnson turned Vietnam into a quagmire. From 1965-1975, 58,000 lives were lost, an average of 5,800 per year.

Clinton went to war in Bosnia without UN or French consent, Bosnia never attacked us. He was offered Osama bin Laden's head on a platter three times by Sudan and did nothing. Osama has attacked us on multiple occasions.

In the two years since terrorists attacked us, President Bush has liberated two countries, crushed the Taliban, crippled al-Qaida, put nuclear inspectors in Lybia, Iran and North Korea without firing a shot, and captured a terrorist who slaughtered 300,000 of his own people. We lost 600 soldiers, an average of 300 a year. Bush did all this abroad while not allowing another terrorist attack at home.

Worst president in history? Come on!

The Democrats are complaining about how long the war is taking, but...

It took less time to take Iraq than it took Janet Reno to take the Branch Davidian compound. That was a 51 day operation.

We've been looking for evidence of chemical weapons in Iraq for less time than it took Hillary Clinton to find the Rose Law Firm billing records.

It took less time for the 3rd Infantry Division and the Marines to destroy the Medina Republican Guard than it took Teddy Kennedy to call the police after his Oldsmobile sank at Chappaquiddick.

It took less time to take Iraq than it took to count the votes in Florida!!!!

Once upon a time, there was a Presidential election that was too close to
call. Neither the Republican presidential candidate nor the Democratic
Presidential candidate had enough votes to win the election. Therefore, it
was decided that there should be an ice fishing contest between the two
candidates to determine the final winner. There was much talk about ballot
recounting, court challenges, etc., but a week-long ice fishing competition
seemed the (manly) way to settle things The candidate who catches the most
fish at the end of the week wins.

After a lot of back and forth discussion, it was decided that the contest
would take place on a remote and cold lake in Wisconsin. There were to be
no observers present, and both men were to be sent out separately on this
remote lake and return daily with their catch for counting and verification.

At the end of the first day, George W. returns to the starting
line and he has 10 fish. Soon, Kerry returns and has zero fish. Well,
everyone assumes he is just having another bad hair day or something and
hopefully, he will catch up the next day. At the end of the 2nd day George
W. comes in with 20 fish and Kerry comes in again with none.

That evening, Bill Clinton gets together secretly with Kerry and says, "I
think George W. is a lowlife cheatin' son-of-a-gun. I want you to go out
tomorrow and don't even bother with fishing. Just spy on him and see if he
is cheating in any way.

The next night (after George W. comes back with 50 fish), Clinton says to
Kerry, "Well, what about it, is George W. cheatin?'"

"He sure is, Bill, he's cutting holes in the ice."

Although I understand your logic, you're missing a vital statistic. There are approximately 125,000 troops in Iraq with targets on their back, there are approximately 951,270 residents (2000 census) in Detroit most of whom go about their business with a relatively small risk of being murdered.

In other words, the troops in the field are at risk 24x7. The same can't be said for the residents of Detroit.

While JFK did indeed, honor a committment, so did Eisenhower. Harry Truman actually set the policy in Indochina when he formed MAAG-Indochina on September 17th, 1950 and committed up to 200 advisors to Vietnam to assist the French on the use of American hardware, etc.

There is actually conflicting accounts on these deaths...and the way they were counted, in the Korean War. One of my figures claimed that 36,914 were killed in Korea, with 33,652 of them being directly battle related.

Another figure erroneously listed fatalities in the Korean War at 54,246...which included non-Korean theater deaths. Unfortunately, I think they are still trying to figure all this out.

That statistic is a load of crap. You're not comparing like with like. What you should be comparing is how many policemen were killed in Detroit in January not citizens by other citizens.

If you want to go the other way perhaps you should compare how many Iraqi citizens murdered other Iraqi citizens in the whole of Iraq in January. I'd be willing to bet my left nut that it was way more than 35. Actually I bet there was more than 35 in Bahgdad in any given week, let alone the whole of the country in one month.

What you seem to be suggesting is that Detroit is a more dangerous place, which it patently is not.

Hitlery never found all the Rose Law Firm billing records. There is evidence of certain odious activities in those that were discovered, but the "smoking gun" was not clear enough for the liberals to see there. (sounds a little like the WMD hunt to this time...)

In fact, I don't think Hitlery and her minions ever found them at all - it was some White House housekeeper...
