I thought you would take offense but please understand that many people do not even look for work until their benefits run out. Those people are on the unemployment gravy train, you are not if you are actively pursuing new employment. There is a distinction. Being downsized is not a reason to accept government assistance, not being able to find acceptable work is a reason. The taxpayers shouldn't have to provide unambitious workers with a severance package.

If you weren't up so far on your ivory tower, I would explain my circumstances to you. As a hardworking taxpayer who has been in the workforce for the last thirty years, I'm smart enough to know that you're not worth it.
