May 14, 2004 -- Nick Berg, the young American beheaded by terrorists in Iraq, had an earlier encounter with a Muslim fanatic - and inadvertently provided accused 9/11 al Qaeda operative Zacarias Moussaoui with his e-mail password. The bizarre twist was confirmed by the Justice Department and Berg's father. In what one Justice official described as a "coincidental" link, both the telecommunications whiz from West Chester, Pa., and the accused 9/11 conspirator were in Norman, Okla., in 2000.

Bombshell? The reporter would like it to be a bombshell. More like a bottle rocket. Americans are outraged at the beheading. All of this media finger-pointing at the U.S. Government ain't gonna fly this time.
He was only there for 6 to 8 weeks the first time. He went back in mid March and was arrested 10 days later. He spent nearly 2 weeks in custody, then around April 6th to 9th, he said he was leaving.
So how and when did he make this money?
When I went across country in the summer of 2001, one of my favorite states was Oklahoma, so no offense intended. But to leave Cornell, an Ivy, for UO just seems a little weird.

An intersting excerpt from one of his emails:
"The other interesting thing about this area is that, for some reason, there are supposedly a good deal of Iranian spies who wander over and sneak about. This actually became quite relevant to my stay in Diwaniya. Isn't this starting to read like a mystery novel..."
so strange. And how are Iranian spies relevant to his stay???

"Otherwise, I came to Mosul to meet Moffak Mustaffa Yasin, Mudafer's (my paternal uncle) brother. It was very easy to find his office (it took about one hour of broken Arabic and a few family-tree sketches)."

Cincy, this story is taking such bizzare twists that I don't know what to make of it.
If Nick Berg so easily gave his email password, who's to say the emails from Iraq to his family were actually written by Nick? Hmmmmmm?
Truth is stranger than fiction. But finding the truth in the fiction is becoming a real challenge.

Berg was inspecting communications facilities, some of which were destroyed in the war or by looters.
During his time in Iraq, he struggled with the Arabic language and worked at night on a tower in Abu Ghraib, a site of repeated attacks on U.S. convoys and the location of the notorious prison where U.S. soldiers abused Iraqi inmates.
His father, Michael Berg, said his sister, now dead, married an Iraqi man named Mudafer, who became close to his son. In one of the e-mails, Nicholas Berg describes going to the northern city of Mosul, where he introduced himself to Mudafer's brother, identified as Moffak Mustaffa.
"We got along splendidly," Berg wrote. "We spent a few hours and I helped him establish an e-mail account." ....***
I thought the same thing.
Way too many things that don't add up here.

I wan't some kind of confirmation that Nick was really for the war and President Bush.
I won't take his fathers word for it, it needs to be an independent source. I wonder how he's registered to vote?
Additionally, the information that came out yesterday regarding Nick becoming more religious whilst the rest of his family was non-observant makes me think it could have been simply cover, I dare not say his Rabbi is lying.
There is no chance at all these connections are coincidence. None.

He moved around alot. Does anyone know anyone who knew him. FReepers get around,,surely someone knew him. I am intrigued in that the Homeland Security cybersecurity center is in Oklahoma. Berg says he was working at night on a tower or something in Iraq,,now would someone do that kind of work at night? It doesn't make sense to me.
