"I'm looking for info on his service record that would support an application for a sabbatical.

Any clues how to get personal info on this great guy who won't tell his story????"

Apparently JimVT, you're not that great a friend of his. Leave him alone. Why do you care to dig up his PERSONAL past, anyway?

If you want to go to www.hadit.com - you'll find many answers that veterans are looking for. But they are a friendy sort - and won't give out personal info about each other.

You should't mess around in someone else's history, in my opinion. Especially from what you wrote and why.

Seems to me you're off a few years or so...Your post...

I wasn't in direct combat...but I got shot at a few times in Okinawa and Korea (AFTER the big one)

Timeline is way off.

You say "Sorry...I don't buy this "nightmare" BS."

Well, I guess then, you haven't met any of them that do really have PTSD and are disabled by it. It ain't pretty. Learn some more. There are many veterans disabled by post traumatic stress from their service and they deserve respect. Ratings for PTSD are found here, from not being affected, to being totally disabled by their trauma. Don't speak of what you don't know about.

The GAF is a 100-point tool rating overall psychological, social and occupational functioning of people over 18 years of age and older. It excludes physical and environmental impairment. The GAF is included in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fourth Edition, Text Revision (DSM-IV-TR) in the section on multi-axial assessments.

After looking at your home page, just wondering...did you ever serve?

A quote from your home page "“You can sleep well at night because rough men are willing to commit violent acts on your behalf.” —George Orwell"

Maybe the 'rough men' did serve, and now suffer from their nightmares, which you negate. Maybe the rough men aren't the people YOU know, ie 'All the former SF people I know are Lawyers, M.D.'s, Phd's, etc. "

Nah, they're just normal guys who served honorably.

OK, try this:

Most warriors don't want to talk about what they have done. The more talkative they are, the more I doubt their stories.

The fact that he is quiet about it supports my opinion that he was probably a stud.

What are you rambling about? My point was that they were all well adjusted. Everyone has things they don't want to share for some reason or another.
I was suggesting that the poster drop it...what do you suggest?

As a matter of fact...

I'm only 32. I have two MOS's, and I am seriously considering to re-up. Everytime I see some P_ssy on TV gripe about the military or I hear about some coward running to Canada it makes me want to puke.

I know I shouldn't let it bother me (recruitment is high and so is reenlistment). I just know that I'm still young enough to serve and I feel that I could do more than just Freep.

Sorry if I seemed rambling. My point was about veterans who served. Honorably, now disabled. Mentally disabled.

Forgotten vets.

I mean Vietnam veterans, because those are who I know and love.

But, it will trickle down years later, to others I'd bet who served more recently, I'm afraid. I hope the VA does a better job years from now, than they do currently. I mean for instance: it's been more than a year, and the VA still can't diagnose my partner beyond his 100% PTSD. He still can't walk. Back to the VA soon. No good prognosis.

(PTSD is mental.)

Best to you all who serve our USA.

Please excuse my mis-post or mis-anything else that some may misinterpret.

I couldn't be more proud of our service members.

I have a 49-year old friend, who just returned from Iraq.

Pretty sharp guy.

He can steer me out in the northwoods, any old day. And he has. Common sense. Trustworthy.
