The Israeli Ambassador in Washington, Danny Ayalon, told leaders in the American government that Palestinians dismantled the roofs of their homes in order to show that the IDF destroyed the houses and so that they can receive compensation.

Ayalon told ynet that "there was a Palestinian propaganda campaign as if hundreds and thousands of houses were destroyed. The Americans were disturbed that there was collective punishment being done, but I clarified to them that this isn't the goal of this operation."

This is true, Yoni. There was a picture today in our local paper along with a relevant article concerning the IDF operating in the area. There was a Muslim women throwing a mattress out of a second story window to a man below, and the description on the picture was they were fleeing the area because of the approaching IDF.

Thing is, from the angle of the picture, you could see through the bay window she was at, to the roof above (gone), and it struck me as strange. The building was not visibly damaged at all, no debris visible anywhere in the picture, just half the roof gone.

I understand the background now.

Note well, the article was by a female Muslim news correspondent and the slant was clearly anti-Israel, detailing the "plight" of the Muslims whose houses were being demolished by the IDF because HAMAS and PLO terrorist shooters use them to target Jews and IDF patrols.

Unfortunately, I couldn't find the picture on their Internet site.

I guess my question is this: how is it that peeling back roofs like the tops of tuna cans equates to IDF-style damage? Is there any other self-mutilation going on where their homes are concerned?

Don't know. The picture in the paper just struck me as odd. Yoni's post made sense. Guess it's a phenomenon that should be followed back up on.
