Bayonet Brits kill 35 rebels (Brits Go Hand To Hand 5 to 1)

OUTNUMBERED British soldiers killed 35 Iraqi attackers in the Army’s first bayonet charge since the Falklands War 22 years ago. The fearless Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders stormed rebel positions after being ambushed and pinned down.

Despite being outnumbered five to one, they suffered only three minor wounds in the hand-to-hand fighting near the city of Amara.

The battle erupted after Land Rovers carrying 20 Argylls came under attack on a highway.

After radioing for back-up, they fixed bayonets and charged at 100 rebels using tactics learned in drills.

Charge ... tactics from drills

When the fighting ended bodies lay all over the highway — and more were floating in a nearby river. Nine rebels were captured.

An Army spokesman said: “This was an intense engagement.”

The last bayonet charge was by the Scots Guards and the Paras against Argentinian positions.

Further, I do not note any mention of "prisoners" taken.

If it initiated at close quarters bayonets could be more effective than bullets. It would be the last thing the enemy would expect, and the shock value would get the Scotsmen in among the enemy before they could react. Then it would be to close to use rifles - regardless of Hollywood.

The whole time I was stabbing the silhouettes with my bayonet. They would yell "What makes the grass grow green?"

When I went through they yelled “What is the spirit of the bayonet?”
We were supposed to respond with a resounding “TO KILL!”
By the end of the cycle our 500 draftees were answering “To open beer cans!”.

Oh no! That means there are at least two of you whiskey swillin' pony thieves on Free Republic!

Freeper Leisler claims his part of the clan has been chased out of every decent country in the western hemisphere, and if you knew him, you'd believe him.

You should hear what he says about my Greek ancestry.

;O)

It's good to see that the Scots can really fight as well as strut their stuff.

The Scots have fought in almost any war they could find anytime. Their war museum at Edinborgh(sp?) Castle is indeed impressive, God Bless Em!!!!!

Kind of hard to aim when you see a lot of people screaming and running at you with long, pointy things, and the look in their eyes is telling you that they are intent upon killing you.

Very strange wedding reception these people were having wasn't it???

And as we all know, the children and women were "placed" there to be sacrificed in a staged wedding if things went wrong during their terror operation, from which US troops were purposefully fired upon, in a successful effort to create "innocent" casualties to aid the propaganda war against the US.

They are the real butchers.

When I read this, I hoped that their piper played before, during and after the Scots attacked.

If so, Bagpipe music can be played where and whenever, the Islamo Scumbags gather.

The whiners from the prison who had women's panties placed over their heads are probably thanking Allah that they didn't battle with the Scots.

I remember my Father-in-Law, telling me they were once attacked by Japanese in the Phillipines.

He said they charged with fixed bayonets. The thing which stuck in my mind was he said it gave him a sick feeling in his stomach when he saw the bayonets.

The Americans had enough fire power that the Japanese never made it to the American lines.

In every instance you cite, what we see is bravery or fanaticism, not backed with skill. Thus, the overwhelmingly lopsided casualties. Part of me thinks the Coalition troops quoted give some props to the Iraqis out of Western guilt or appreciation of the underdog. Sure, maybe if our troops didn't have body armor, air support, and the other superior technology, the Iraqis would give a better showing, but those Scots didn't have that and still wiped the floor with them.

Just Damn!!! 5 to 1 odds huh?

Interestingly this is about the same as the Battle of Agincourt. Maybe now the French will be interested in " playing" in a sort of loosers round with the terrorists. Even money?

There are wild rumours going around ( mostly put about by the sassenachs) that the Scots have short tempers. My guess is they got upset that their trip back to the mess for the evening "bevy" had been interrupted.
